Terre Haute, Ind. - Senior Scott Overall placed 35th in the individual competition and for the second straight year Butler finished 25th in the final team standings at the NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country Championship held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind., on Monday (Nov. 20). Colorado won the team championship, while Wisconsin finished runner-up in the 31-team field.

Overall, who finished 49th at the NCAA national meet a year ago, covered the 10,000 meter course in 31:42 to pace the Bulldogs. He was the lone Butler runner to crack the top 100 in the championship competition. Junior Darren Gauson was the second Butler runner across the finish line, finishing 137th in 32:56.5.

Rounding out Butler's scoring quintet were senior Alex Hains, who finished 173rd in 33:22.5, junior Richard Kay, who came in 181st in 33:29.2, and freshman Justin Roeder, who placed 182nd in 33:29.6.

Butler's other two competitors were senior Andy Rayner, who finished 215th in 34:01.3, and junior Sam Jacobs, who placed 237th in 34:39.9.

Josh Rohatinsky of BYU won the individual competition in 30:44.9, while Nef Araia of Stanford finished runner-up in 30:52.6.

Butler, champion of the Horizon League, was making its third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Men's Cross Country Championship. The Bulldogs posted a fourth place team finish in 2004, before finishing 25th last year.
