Senior Victoria Mitchell, junior Scott Overall and sophomore Ava Hutchinson will represent Butler University at the 2005 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which begin at Sacramento State University in Sacramento, Calif., on Wednesday, June 8. It's the second consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships for Mitchell, while Overall and Hutchinson will be making their first national meet appearance.
Mitchell, who earned All-America recognition with an eighth place finish in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase at last year's NCAA national meet, will be the first Butler athlete to see action. She'll compete in the first round of the women's steeplechase on Wednesday evening. Mitchell has run the fastest steeplechase time in the NCAA this spring, and she's coming off a runner-up finish in the steeplechase at the NCAA Mideast Regional.
The women's steeplechase finals will be held on Friday, June 10.
Overall and Hutchinson will compete in back-to-back races on Thursday evening, June 9. Overall is entered in the men's 1500 meter run, while Hutchinson is competing in the women's 1500 meter race. The finals for both events will be held on Saturday, June 11.
Overall placed seventh in the men's 1500 meter run at the Mideast Regional, while Hutchinson was fourth in the women's 1500 meter run.
