2007 NCAA Men's Championship Bracket

2007 NCAA Men's Championship Bracket

Both the Butler University men and the University of Illinois at Chicago women will face the University of Notre Dame in the first round of the 2007 NCAA Men's & Women's Tennis Championships, beginning Friday, May 11, on campus sites.

The Bulldogs defeated UIC last weekend to pick up their sixth consecutive Horizon League men's title, while the Fighting Irish, currently No. 5 in the FILA/ITA collegiate rankings, defeated the University of Louisville to capture the Big East crown for the sixth time since 1996.

On the women's side, the Flames picked up their 11th-straight League crown last weekend with a narrow 4-3 victory over Butler.  UIC will battle a Notre Dame team that boasts a No. 6 national ranking and 25 victories on the year.

Last season, Butler fell to Ohio State 4-0, while UIC lost to cross-town rival Northwestern 4-0 in first round action.   The last Horizon League victory in NCAA championship play came in 1994 when former member Notre Dame defeated UC-Santa Barbara 5-3 in the opening round of the women's championship.

First- and second-round competition will be conducted May 11-13 with the winner of each site advancing to the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, hosted by the University of Georgia. The team championship will be held May 18-22.  For more information on the NCAA Men's and Women's Tennis Championships, visit www.ncaasports.com.
