Indianapolis, Ind. - Butler's Scott Overall has been named the 2005 Horizon League men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, while teammate Victoria Mitchell claims the honor for the second consecutive season on the women's side.
Overall clinched a 13th place finish in the 1500-meter run at the 2005 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. His time of 3:43.55 marks the second-fastest in Butler school history. Overall is a junior and is originally from London, England.
Mitchell captured the 3000-meter steeplechase title at the 2005 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships and became the first Butler student-athlete to claim an individual national championship in 73 years. She placed first in the 1500-meter run at the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships and was also the recipient of the 2005 Cecil N. Coleman Medal of Honor Award. Mitchell hails from Mansfield, Victoria, Australia.
Other women's nominees included Joanna Grandas of Detroit, Jenni Goebel of UIC, Marcia Faustin of Loyola, Katie Slamka of UW-Milwaukee and Youngstown State's Bethany Anderson.
Other men's nominees included Ryan Byrne of Detroit, Trent Thompson of UIC, Sean Conroy of Loyola, Jeremy Majors of UW-Milwaukee and Youngstown State's Jason Greenamyer.
