INDIANAPOLIS -- Butler University junior Drew Streicher (men's basketball) and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay senior Molly Cox (women's swimming and diving) have been named the Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Week, commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced Tuesday (Jan. 30).

Streicher helped the Bulldogs to a pair of road victories at Loyola University Chicago and the University of Detroit Mercy last week, scoring nine points in each game. He made seven of eight shots from the field in the two contests, along with all three free throws he attempted. Streicher also grabed five minutes against the Ramblers as Butler remained atop the League standings and climbed to the 13th position in the Associated Press national poll.

In the classroom, Streicher carries a near-perfect 3.937 grade-point average as a chemistry/pre-med major. He is a two-time Academic All-League honoree, and has earned a spot on the League's Academic Honor Roll in each of the last four semesters. Streicher was also recognized as a member of Butler's 4.0 Honor Roll after the Fall 2006 semester.

Cox broke a ten-year-old Dorschel Natatorium record Saturday (Jan. 27), pacing the homestanding Phoenix to victories over Youngstown State University and Illinois State University as UW-Green Bay improved to 12-1 on the season. Her time of 17:40.28 in the 1,650-yard freestyle eclipsed the previous mark by 14 seconds. She completed a sweep of the distance freestyle events wit a win in the 500-yard freestyle---finishing the event with a 5:11.71 clocking---and was also a member of the victorious 400-yard reestyle relay team.

In the classroom, Cox owns a 3.621 grade-point average as an education major. She has been a member of the League's Academic Honor Roll for five consecutive semesters.

The Horizon League instituted the Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards for this academic year as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution and passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours, and perform well during the week's competition. Winners are selected by a group of League faculty athletic representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
