Detroit, Mich. - The Detroit Titans men's golf team will make its third NCAA post-season appearance in five years when it travels next week to South Bend, IN to play in the 2005 Central Regional. The announcement was made Monday evening by the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee.

The Titans received an automatic berth in the Regionals by winning the Horizon League Championship last week. The Central Regional will be hosted by the University of Notre Dame at the Warren Golf Club. Two other Regionals - the East at the Golf Club of Tennessee in Nashville and the West at the Stanford Golf Club - will also be contested May 19-21.

Detroit will be joined by 26 other teams at the Central Regional. The other entrants include top-seeded Oklahoma State, along with Augusta State, TCU, Kentucky, Texas, Purdue, Minnesota, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Kent State, Texas Tech, SMU, Tulsa, Wichita State, Xavier, Texas A&M, Kansas, Arkansas, Baylor, Notre Dame, Lamar, Missouri, Kansas State, IUPUI, Jackson State and Loyola (MD). The top 10 teams from each Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships June 1-4 at Caves Valley Golf Club in suburban Baltimore.

Senior Mitch Starr (Peterborough, ON/Holy Cross) is the lone Titan still on the roster from 2002, when Detroit made its last Regional appearance. Starr did not play in the post-season that year, but he will represent UDM in 2005 along with junior Sean Hutchison (Traverse City, MI/Central), sophomore Kyler Murphy (Thunder Bay, ON/St. Ignatius) and freshmen Mikhial Pasic (London, ON/H.B. Beal) and Mark Sommerfeld (Waterloo, ON/Bluevale).

Sommerfeld was voted all-conference and 2005 Horizon League Newcomer of the Year, and was joined by Murphy and Hutchison on the All-Tournament Team as Detroit scored a six-stroke victory over Wright State at the conference championships. The Horizon League title was UDM's fourth in seven years, and fifth overall.

GolfStat (www.golfstat.com) will provide live scoring of the three NCAA Golf Regionals next week.
