Horizon League Athletes of the Week

Mark Sommerfeld, Detroit
Junior * Waterloo, Ontario
Sommerfeld won his first college tournament title, claiming medalist honors at the Fort Lauderdale Invitational while leading Detroit to second place as a team. Sommerfeld broke par in both rounds, following his opening 70 with a career-low 66. The 66, along with his 6-under-par 136 total, were both tournament records, while the second-round total was one shot off the UDM standard.

Rachel McHenry, Detroit
Sophomore * Livonia, Mich.
McHenry twice medaled last week as she got the spring season off to a flying start. She led Detroit to its first tournament victory ever, winning the Grand Valley State Invitational. Her closing-round 68 set a school record, and she had a 79-68--147 (+3) card for the tournament. McHenry later led Detroit to a tri-match win over Loyola and Youngstown State, finishing first with a 77-71--148 (+4) card.
