Wright State's Duggins named to collegehoops.net freshman honor roll

Dayton, Ohio - Vaughn Duggins, a 6-3 guard for the Wright State men's basketball team, has been named to the High Major Freshman Team by Collegehoops.net.

The Indiana native was second on the team in scoring at 8.9 points per game as well as assists (82) and steals (27). He helped lead the Raiders to their best Division I season (23-9) and their first NCAA Tournament berth since 1993. Duggins missed one start of the 32 games due to senior night while averaging more than 32 minutes a game. He registered 11 double-figure scoring games, including career-high 16 points against Marist.

The Raiders, champions of the Horizon League, await the NCAA Selection Show Sunday night to find out where and what team they will play in the first round of the NCAA Touranment.

Brownell named District 10 Coach of the Year by coaches' association

Dayton, Ohio - Wright State men's basketball coach Brad Brownell has been selected the District 10 Coach of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Brownell, in his first year as head coach at WSU, led the Raiders to a 23-9 record and the school's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1993. The Indiana native led UNC Wilmington to two NCAA Tournaments in four years prior to coming to Wright State. Wright State was co-champions of the Horizon League, posting a 13-3 record, and won the post-season tournament by defeating nationally-ranked Butler Tuesday night 60-55.

"This is a tremendous honor for me and my entire staff," Brownell said. "It is especially rewarding to be recognized as a coach by your peers. I want to thank everyone involved with our program for their hard work this year."

District 10 includes the 23 Division I schools in Ohio and Indiana.

Schilb honored by League, collegeinsider.com, NABC

Chicago, Ill. - Senior guard Blake Schilb continues to accumulate awards this season and last night was selected to the Horizon League Championship All-Tournament Team after leading Loyola to a semifinal round appearance. He was also named Horizon League MVP by collegeinsider.com.

In a pair of games at the Horizon League Championship at Wright State last weekend, the do-everything, 6-foot-7 guard averaged 30.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks, while shooting a sizzling 56 percent (22 for 39) from the field. He tallied 31 points, his second-highest league tournament output, and grabbed eight boards in a 66-62 victory over Illinois-Chicago on March 2, then came back with 29 points and five rebounds in a heartbreaking 67-66 overtime loss to No. 18 Butler in the semifinals.

Schilb, who has already earned NABC First Team All-District 11 and First Team All-Horizon League honors this season, was also chosen Horizon League MVP by collegeinsider.com yesterday. In 31 games this season, he averaged 17.0 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 4.0 apg and 1.3 spg in helping the Ramblers to a 21-11 overall record, their best showing since 1984-85.

Collegeinsider.com also hailed Wood as the Horizon League Player of the Year and Butler's Todd Lickliter as Coach of the Year.
