Horizon League Releases Pairings, Times for 2007 Women's Basketball Championship

INDIANAPOLIS -- The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay owns the top seed for the 2007 Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship after becoming only the second team in League history to go undefeated (16-0) in conference play.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 5, with (#8 seed) Loyola University Chicago hosting (#9 seed) University of Detroit Mercy. Quarterfinal action will take place at campus sites on Wednesday (March 7) before moving to the home venue of the highest remaining seed for the semifinals and championship game on Friday and Sunday (March 9 and 11).

Wednesday's quarterfinal matchups are as follows: (#1 seed) UW-Green Bay hosts the winner of Monday's game, (#7 seed) Cleveland State University travels to (#2 seed) University of Illinois at Chicago, (#6 seed) Youngstown State University visits (#3 seed) Butler University and (#4 seed) University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee welcomes (#5 seed) Wright State University. All games will be played at 7 p.m. local time.

The final regular-season standings featured two ties, UIC and Butler for second place and a three-way draw for sixth place between Youngstown State, Cleveland State and Loyola. The Flames earned the second seed after sweeping the season series with the Bulldogs. Youngstown State, Cleveland State and Loyola all finished the 2006-07 campaign with 5-11 records in League play. Since each team went 1-1 against the other two teams, the tie was broken by comparing each team's record against the team occupying the highest position in the standings. YSU owns the sixth seed with a 1-1 record against second-place UIC and Cleveland State takes the seventh seed with a 1-1 mark against UW-Milwaukee, leaving Loyola as the eighth seed.
