Loyola's Kim, Butler's Peabody named to national Team of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS -- Two Horizon League men's soccer players earned special recognition Wednesday (Oct. 5), drawing spots on the Soccer America National Team of the Week. Sophomore midfielder Keum Sung Kim of Loyola University Chicago and junior goalkeeper Frank Peabody of Butler University are both members of the 11-player honor roll for the week ending Sunday (Oct. 2).

Kim scored four goals with one assist in three matches last week, helping the Ramblers to a pair of victories. Kim had two markers in each triumph and also added an assist as he figured in all three LU tallies in a 3-2 win over DePaul last Wednesday (Sept. 28). His first collegiate goal turned into the eventual match-winner and he added an insurance tally in that contest. He followed up with a pair of goals including the overtime winner to lift the Ramblers past Bowling Green, 3-2, on Sunday.

With his nine points last week, Kim has taken over the team scoring lead and has climbed to third place on the League charts with 12 points (four goals, four assists) this season.

Peabody posted back-to-back shutouts to lead Butler to road victories over Ohio State and Cleveland State. His six saves on Wednesday gave Butler a 1-0 victory against the Buckeyes, who were ranked #22 in the nation by Soccer America at the time. He added four more stops Sunday versus Cleveland State for his sixth shutout of the year, lowering his GAA to 0.25 (second-best in the nation).

Peabody's efforts have helped Butler compile an 8-2-0 overall record, including shutout victories in each of its last three outings, and the nation's No. 25 ranking in the latest Soccer America national poll---the first such rating for the school since 1998.

Kim and Peabody are the third and fourth Horizon League players to earn recognition on Soccer America's weekly honor roll this season. University of Illinois at Chicago goalkeeper Jeff Engelbrecht was cited on Sept. 7, and University of Detroit Mercy forward Andrew Ornoch received similar honors on Sept. 21.

The rest of the national Team of the Week includes two Pacific-10 Conference defenders in UCLA's Jordan Harvey and Oregon State's Daniel Leach. In the midfield, Cal State-Northridge senior Daniel Paladinii joins San Diego State's Dennis Sanchez while five forwards were cited this week. Buffalo's Andrae Clarke and Virginia's Adam Cristman are among that quintet, along with Towson's Sebastian Haensel, Duke Hashimoto of Southern Methodist and Jason Yeisley of Penn State.

Kim and his Rambler teammates are back in action Sunday (Oct. 9), visiting Northern Illinois in non-conference play. Butler has a pair of League contests on the schedule this week as the Bulldogs host the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on Friday (Oct. 7) and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Sunday. Both of those matches are slated for the new FieldTurf at the Butler Bowl.
