INDIANAPOLIS - Nine Horizon League women's soccer players were recognized by Soccer Buzz Magazine as the Internet publication announced its All-Great Lakes Region teams on Monday (Dec. 11).

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee had the most honorees with sophomore Sarah Teegarden and junior Ginny Graczyk placing on the top squad, while sophomore keeper Erin Kane (Second-Team) and freshman Louise Vraney (All-Freshman) also earned accolades.

Graczyk and Kane anchored the Panther defense this season. Graczyk played every minute of every game at a central defender post and Kane finished eighth in the country in goals against average (0.49) in helping UW-Milwaukee to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight year. UWM set school records for wins (16), shutouts (16) and goals-against average (0.44).

Teegarden started 20 games in the midfield for UW-Milwaukee and scored five goals with two assists for 12 points on the season. All five of her goals were game-winners, a school-record-tying figure that also led the League. Vraney led the Panther offense with six goals and 14 points in 2006. The forward got her collegiate career off on the right foot by scoring four goals in her first three career games.

Also earning First-Team recognition was Horizon League Player of the Year senior Mary Parker from the University of Detroit Mercy. Parker became just the fifth player in League history to be selected to the First Team for the four consecutive seasons, while also taking home her second Player of the Year honor this year. She led the loop in goals (17) and points (40) for the third-straight season.

Loyola University Chicago had a tandem of freshman find their way on the teams in Cynthia Morote-Ariza and Jackie Vera. Morote-Ariza placed on the Second Team and also joined Vera on the all-freshman squad.

Morote-Ariza was a big part of Loyola's record-breaking season, breaking school-standards for assists (9) and points (27) in a season while tying the Ramblers' single-season mark with nine goals. Vera also had a solid rookie campaign with the Ramblers, scoring six goals (five assists) and 17 points as Loyola posted a program-best 14 wins during the 2006 season en route to capturing the Horizon League Tournament Championship. Both freshman were honored by the League on the First-Team and the All-Newcomer groups.

Wright State University sophomore Jess Rooma and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay senior Stephanie Gross rounded out the Horizon League award-winners with spots on the Third Team. Rooma was the Raiders' only All-Horizon League First Team honoree in 2006, helping anchor the Raiders midfield. The 2005 Newcomer of the Year tallied three goals and recorded three assists for the Green and Gold this season. Gross finished her career at UW-Green Bay as the only player to ever tally 30 career goals and 20 career assists. She ranks third in team history with 89 career points on 34 goals and 21 assists.
