Male Athlete of the Week

 

Nick Gretz

UW-Milwaukee

Sr., Two Rivers, Wis.

Gretz won the shot put at the Wisconsin Lutheran Invitational last weekend, qualifying for the NCAA Regionals. He threw 57'0.75" to win the shot put, breaking the school record of 56'2.5". He was also one of two multiple event winners as he had a throw of 164'10" to win the discus. The Panthers won 12 events on the day to run away with the meet title.

 

Female Athlete of the Week

 

Amber Curtis

UW-Milwaukee

Jr., Bonduel, Wis.

Curtis set school records in both the discus and hammer throw at the Southern Indiana Invitational. She threw an NCAA Regional qualifying distance of 158'2" in the discus to take second and eclipse the school record of 136'10". A day earlier, she tossed 139'11" in the hammer to break the school standard of 129'3".

Nick Wichert

UW-Milwaukee

Sr., Milwaukee, Wis.

Wichert broke his own school record in the hammer throw by over five feet at the Southern Illinois Spring Classic. He threw 189'2" to take second in the event, qualify for NCAA Regionals and top his school standard of 184'.

 

Sinisa Simic

Detroit

Sr., Windsor, Ontario

Simic won the steeplechase competition with a time of 9:42.61 at the George Mason Spring Classic. The mark was just nine seconds off his own school record.

 

Jimel Denham

Loyola

Jr., Round Lake Beach, Ill.

Denham led the way in the sprints at the UNC Invititational. Denham took second place in the 200-meter dash while a trio of runners represented Loyola in the 100-meter dash. Denham had the highest finish with a sixth-place effort in 10.98

Tiffany Brigham

Wright State

Fr., Springfield, Ohio

Brigham posted a second-place finish at the Cape Fear Invitational, posting a time of :25.00 in the 200 meter. She started the outdoor season the same way that she started the indoor slate, breaking the 200 meter school record. The freshman also posted a runner-up finish in the 100 meters with a time of :12.58.

 

Tory Detty

Wright State

Fr., Chillicothe, Ohio

Detty helped lead the Raiders to a fourth-place finish at the Cedarville Yellow Jacket Open.  She placed fourth in the long jump (3.99m) and was part of the 4x100 meter relay team that also finished fourth (:51.03).

 

Tiffany James

Detroit

So., Westland, Mich.

James finished third in the 100 meters with a time of :12.20 at the George Mason Spring Classic.  She also ran a personal best time of :12.04 in the preliminaries, the second best all-time performance by a Titan.  James also finished seventh in the 200 meters with a time of :25.40.

 

Genni Gardner

Butler

Jr., Bramley, United Kingdom

Gardner hit the regional qualifying mark and ran a lifetime best 16:37.08 in the 5,000 meter run at the Stanford University Invitational.  She ran in the second section of the women's 5,000 meter run and placed seventh, less than three seconds behind Kara Scanlin of Virginia in sixth place.  Tara Storage of Ohio Elite won the second section in 16:16.88.

 

Amanda Domich

Loyola

Sr., Algonquin, Ill.

Domich paced the Ramblers at the Stanford Invitational with a personal-best finish for 17th-place in section two of the 10,000-meter race. Her mark of 35:46.04 is the third-fastest time in school history and 1:32 better than her previous best.
