INDIANAPOLIS -- University of Wisconsin-Green Bay sophomore forward Mike Schachtner (men's basketball) and Wright State University senior guard Steph Comisar (women's basketball) have been named the Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Week, League commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced Tuesday (Dec. 19).

Schachtner adds this award to the Player of the Week accolades he picked up earlier in the week for his outstanding performance in two Phoenix victories this week. In a 92-81 victory over Chicago State University last Tuesday, the six-foot-nine sophomore poured in a career-high 36 points on 11-of-15 shooting, including seven-of-eight from three-point range. The 36 points were the most by a Green Bay player since Jeff Nordgaard had 37 against UIC on Feb. 22, 1996. Schachtner was back at it again on Saturday with a game-high 18 points in an 80-48 win over South Dakota State University.

Academically, the Somerset, Wis., native owns a 3.90 grade-point average as a general studies major.

Comisar, playing in just her sixth game of the season, set a new career-high with 21 points in a 55-49 loss to Wake Forest University on Thursday. She also tied her collegiate best marks of five rebounds and three steals in the contest, while shooting seven-of-16 from the field and five-of-11 from three-point territory. Comisar, who is also the goalkeeper on the WSU women's soccer team, has scored 40 points in her last two outings on the hardwood, draining nine three-pointers.

In the classroom, Comisar owns a 3.27 grade-point average in her studies as an accounting major. She has earned Wright State's highest honors once and high honors twice while also being named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll in both the spring and fall last year.

The Horizon League instituted the Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards for this academic year as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution and passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours, and perform well during the week's competition. Winners are selected by a group of League faculty athletic representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
