Male Swimmer of the Week

 

Dan Hare

UIC

Jr., Lockport, Ill.

Hare contributed to a total of eight UIC victories at the Bill Ritter Invitational. Individually the versatile junior won 100 breast in :59.76 and the 200 breast in 2:12.76, while also taking the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.43. In addition, Hare paced UIC's 200 free, 400 free, 800 free, 200 medley and 400 medley relay squads to victorious performances.

 

Female Swimmer of the Week

 

Shannon Berndt

UW-Milwaukee

Fr., Fond du lac, Wis.

Berndt recorded her ninth and tenth individual victories of the season in helping UWM repeat at the Bill Ritter Invitational. She swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100 in a season-best time of 1:05.74 and the 200 in 2:25.24. In addition, she took third in the 200 IM and swam on the first-place 400 medley relay team and the second-place 200 medley relay team. Her time in the 100 breast set a new pool and UWM freshman record.

 

Male Diver of the Week

 

Phillip Zumstein

UW-Green Bay

Sr., Mundelein, Ill.

Zumstein dominated the field in winning both the one-meter and three-meter competition at the UW-Milwaukee Bill Ritter Invitational last weekend while helping the Phoenix to a second-place team finish. The senior posted season-best scores on each board, winning the one-meter (307.40) by nearly 40 points and the three-meter (338.80) by over 50 points.

 

Female Diver of the Week

 

Rachel Grimm

UW-Milwaukee

Fr., Grafton, Wis.

Grimm helped the UWM diving team finish 1-2-3 on both boards at the Bill Ritter Invitational with season-best efforts on each. She won the three-meter event with a season-best 246.50 points and then placed third on the one-meter board with 238.00 points as Milwaukee won the team title.

Ryan Fitzer

UIC

Sr., Naperville, Ill.

Fitzer paced the Flames with two Top 3 finishes on the boards at the Bill Ritter Invitational, placing second in the three-meter event (278.15) and turning in a third-place score of 262.85 in the one-meter competition.

 

Robby Leibold

UW-Milwaukee

So., Neenah, Wis.

Leibold had a solid meet to help lead UW-Milwaukee to its first title at the Bill Ritter Invitational since 1998. He won two events, taking first in both the 1,650 freestyle in 16:16.59 and first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:10.81. In addition, he placed second in the 500 free with a time of 4:43.35. His time in the 1,650 free set a new Klotsche Natatorium record. He also swam on the second-place 800 free relay team.

 

Joey Weber

UW-Green Bay

Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.

Weber swept the backstroke titles in helping the Phoenix to a second-place finish at the Bill Ritter Invitational last weekend. After claiming the title in the 100 back (:51.54), the senior set a pool record in cruising to victory in the 200 back (1:52.28). Weber also contributed second-place finishes in the 50 free (:21.17) as well as on the 200 free relay (1:26.66) and 400 free relay (3:13.13) teams.

 

Raj Duggal

Butler

Sr., Columbus, Ind.

Duggal swam to a season-best 10:01.71 in the 1,000 freestyle, claiming the Bulldogs' first event win of the meet. Duggal also added a third-place showing in the 500 free with a time of 4:57.85.

 

Ryan Kellerman

Wright State

Sr., Erlanger, Ky.

Kellerman won the three-meter and one-meter diving events at Western Kentucky this past weekend and placed second in each event at Louisville. Kellerman posted a three-meter score of 322.50 for the win and a total of 290.62 in the one-meter.

 

Other Women's Top Performers for the Week

 

Andrea Giczewski

UIC

Sr., Livonia, Mich.

Giczewski won the 100 backstroke in 1:01.05 to highlight a stellar showing at the Bill Ritter Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The junior also took second in the 50 free (:24.50), third in the 100 free (:53.61) and helped UIC's 200 and 400 free relays finish second.

 

Cortney Harless

Youngstown State

Sr., Steubenville, Ohio

Harless swept the diving events for the first time in her career Saturday against Radford and Saint Francis. She posted a season-best score of 198.00 in the one-meter.

 

Danielle DeGrand

UW-Green Bay

So., Green Bay, Wis.

DeGrand earned five first-place finishes in leading UW-Green Bay to a second-place team finish at the Bill Ritter Invitational. Individually, DeGrand won three events, setting a pool record in claiming the 400 individual medley (4:34.51) title. She also finished first in the 200 backstroke (2:09.11) and the 200 IM (2:09.29). DeGrand was also a member of the victorious 200 medley relay (1:50.00) and 200 free relay (1:38.54) squads.

 

Mary Beth Arnold

Butler

Sr., Indianapolis, Ind.

Arnold recorded the Butler women's top showings over the weekend, swimming to a second-place time of :25.50 in the 50 free, a runner-up mark of 1:09.14 in the 100 breast and another second-place time of 2:30.86 in the 200 breast.

 

Sarah Wyant

Wright State

Sr., Hamilton, Ohio

Wyant posted a win in the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions this past weekend, taking the one-meter at Louisville and the three-meter at Western Kentucky. Wyant posted a score of 244.28 in the three-meter event at WKU for the event victory, while placing second in the one-meter. At Louisville, Wyant posted a 253.50 in winning the one-meter event.
