Male Swimmer of the Week

 

Blake Booher

UIC

Sr., Barrington, Ill.

Booher built tremendous momentum heading into his defense of the Horizon League 50-yard freestyle title by topping Cleveland State in :20.38, the best time in the League this season. That was before he swam a leadoff 50 free split of :20.25 in UIC's winning 200 free relay later in the meet. He also won the 100 free in :46.03.             

                                                        

Female Swimmer of the Week

 

Lindsay Caldwell

UW-Milwaukee

Sr., West Bend, Wis.

Swimming against the two-time defending champs in UW-Green Bay, Caldwell won both of her individual events and was part of the 400 medley relay team that set a new Dorschel Natatorium record of 3:55.21. Then, she won the 100 for the ninth-straight time on the season in :52.16 and topped the field in the 200 free in 1:54.34 as well.

 

Male Diver of the Week

 

Mark Pappalardo

UIC

Sr., LaGrange, Ill.

Pappalardo won the one-meter event with a score of 312.80 against Cleveland State. He later placed second in the three-meter competition with a 346.30.

 

Female Diver of the Week

 

Emily Duesler

UW-Milwaukee

Sr., Middleton, Wis.

Duesler dominated the day against UW-Green Bay, winning both boards. She started with a win on the one-meter with 245.85 points. Then, on the three, she set a new career-best with an NCAA Zone-qualifying score of 294.85 to top second place by nearly 40 points. The wins were her 10th and 11th of the year.

Chase Gravengood

UW-Milwaukee

Jr., Oconomowoc, Wis.

Chase did all he could to help UW-Milwaukee try and beat Green Bay, winning both of his individual events and the relay that he swam. He won the 200 freestyle in 1:43.96, the 200 butterfly in 1:54.58 and as a member of the winning 400 free relay team which touched the wall in 3:12.02.

 

Jason Brozek

Butler

Sr., Great Bend, Kan.

Brozek notched a pair of season-best times in helping the Bulldogs to their second win of the season, scoring a victory in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.30 and adding a second-place showing in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.11.

 

Joey Weber

UW-Green Bay

Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.

Swimming in the final home meet of his career, Weber was a part of three victories as UW-Green Bay downed in-state rival UW-Milwaukee. Weber touched first in the 50 free (:21.16) and the 200 back (1:53.86) and was also a member of the winning 400 medley relay team (3:55.21). 

 

Phillip Zumstein

UW-Green Bay

Sr., Mundelein, Ill.

Zumstein helped the Phoenix to its ninth straight duel meet win by winning on both boards to help UW-Green Bay top in-state rival UW-Milwaukee. He won the 1-meter competition by 60 points with a score of 285.85 and dominated on the 3-meter board winning by nearly 100 points with a total of 340.98.

 

Bjorn Schantz

Cleveland State

Sr., Loddekopinge, Sweden

Schantz won the 1,000 and 200 free back-to-back and added a first place finish in the 500 free in CSU's 140-103 win at UIC Saturday.

 

Other Women's Top Performers for the Week

 

Julia Darling

Youngstown State

Jr., Holland, Mich.

Darling was the top swimmer in six individual races and picked up two relay wins in meets against Cleveland State, California (Pa.) and Slippery Rock last week. She won the 200 IM and posted the top time in an exhibition swim in the 200 breast against the Vikings on Thursday. Darling then swept the breaststroke events against CUP and Slippery Rock on Friday and was part of YSU's 200 medley relay that defeated both schools. Her time of 1:09.00 in the 100 breast was her best of the season.

 

Shaina Israel

UIC

Fr., Oregon, Ill.

The freshman freestyler had a meet to remember against Cleveland State this past Saturday, winning three individual races. Israel began with a win in the 1000 free (10:44.42). She stepped back in the pool 13 minutes after her first win to claim a 200 free victory in 2:00.11. The walk-on distance specialist then captured the 500 free in a convincing 5:16.70.

 

Mary Beth Arnold

Butler

Sr., Indianapolis, Ind.

Arnold scored a pair of event wins in helping the Bulldogs to a win over Vincennes, swimming to a time of 25.76 in the 50 free and time of 1:08.41 in the 100 breaststroke.  She also swam the anchor leg of the 200 free relay that posted a season-best time of 1:44.00.

 

Kelsey Hausken

UW-Green Bay

So., Stillwater, Minn.

Hausken helped UW-Green Bay top in-state foe UW-Milwaukee Saturday by winning an individual event and swimming a leg on the winning relay in the decisive event of the meet. She was victorious in the 50 free (24.64) and with the Phoenix needing a victory in the 400 free relay, swam a leg on that first-place team (3:34.54). The victory in the 400 free relay helped UW-Green Bay edge the Panthers, ranked No. 8 in the CollegeSwimming.com mid-major poll. It also gave the Phoenix its 13th straight dual-meet win of the season.

 

Jen MacLauchlan

Cleveland State

So., Newmarket, Ontario

MacLauchlan posted team top times in the 200 IM (2:15.16), 100 fly (1:00.72) and the 200 breast (2:12.40) in two meets against League teams last week. She also won the 200 back at Youngstown State on Thursday.
