Male Swimmer of the Week

 

Chase Gravengood

UW-Milwaukee

Jr., Oconomowoc, Wis.

Gravengood won all three of his individual events and assisted with multiple relays at the Wheaton Invitational. He won the 100 butterfly with a season-best time of :50.17 and won the 200 butterfly with a meet record and season-best time of 1:50.61. In the 200 IM, he set a meet, pool and UWM school record with a winning time of 1:51.35. He also helped the 400 and 800 free relay teams to second-place finishes.

 

Female Swimmer of the Week

 

Molly Finn

UW-Milwaukee

So., Pewaukee, Wis.

Finn played a key role in the Panthers' repeat at the Wheaton Invitational, winning all three of her individual events. She won the 200 butterfly (2:07.26), the 200 IM (2:08.57) and the 400 IM (4:33.75) in season-best times. In addition, she was on the 400 medley relay team that took first, the 400 and 800 free relay teams that took third and the 200 medley relay team that placed fifth.

 

Male Diver of the Week

 

Chris Dalman

Cleveland State

Sr., Auburn, Wash.

Dalman placed fourth in both the one- and three-meter diving events at the Ohio State Invitational.  He scored a 322.25 in the one-meter and a 347.85 in the three-meter.

  

Female Diver of the Week

 

Emily Duesler

UW-Milwaukee

Sr., Middleton, Wis.

Duesler was the top finisher for the UWM women at the Miami (OH) Invitational this past weekend, taking second-place on both boards. On the one-meter, her score of 251.75 was just behind the winning tally of 253.25 and her score on the three-meter was 268.25.

 

Other Men's Top Performers for the Week

 

Bjorn Schantz

Cleveland State

Sr., Loddekopinge, Sweden

Schantz clocked League-best efforts in the 500 freestyle (4:30.42) and the 1,650 freestyle (15:53.98) at the Miami [Ohio] Invitational in Oxford, Ohio. Schantz also notched a 1:41.35 in the 200 freestyle over the weekend and swam the anchor legs of CSU's 400 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams.

 

Blake Booher

UIC

Sr., Barrington, Ill.

Booher represented UIC well at the 2006 U.S. Open over the weekend. The senior sprint-freestyler finished 31st in a 69-man field in the 50-meter freestyle finals last Thursday with a time of :24:22. Two days later he swam a :23.76 in a 50-meter freestyle time trial and posted a :53.74 in the 100-meter freestyle event won by Olympian Michael Phelps.

 

Rafael Candido

Wright State

Sr., Recife, Brazil

Candido finished second in the 100 breast (:56.31) and 50 freestyle (:20.78), and third in the 200 breast (2:05.32) at the Miami [Ohio] Invitational.  He was also part of the second-place 200 free relay team and third-place 400 free and 800 medley relay teams.  Candido set WSU season individual top times in the 100 free, 100 breast and 200 breast while four of the five relay teams (200 free, 400 free, 800 free, 400 medley) also set season top times.

 

Patrick Rongitsch

UW-Milwaukee

Fr., Eagan, Minn.

Rongitsch led the UWM men's diving efforts at the Miami [Ohio] Invitational, taking third on the three-meter board with a career-best 259.15 points. He also competed in the finals on the one-meter, placing eighth.

 

Raj Duggal

Butler

Sr., Columbus, Ind.

Duggal had perhaps the finest showing for the Bulldog men's team, scoring a win in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:37.24 and finishing less than a second off of his school-record mark of 4:36.32.  He also added season-best times in the 200 free (1:43.64) and in the 1,650 free (16:20.74) and 200 butterfly (1:58.45).

 

Other Women's Top Performers for the Week

 

Marianne Lionell

Cleveland State

Sr., Sodertalje, Sweden

Lionell recorded three team top times over the weekend at the Miami [Ohio] Invitational in Oxford, Ohio, highlighted by a 1:07.59 performance in the 100 breast. Lionell also clocked a :24.59 in the 50 freestyle and a :53.30 in the 100 freestyle.

 

Mabel Fernandez

Wright State

Jr., San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina

Fernandez swam a 5:06.00 in the 500 free at the Miami [Ohio] Invitational.

 

Mary Beth Arnold

Butler

Sr., Indianapolis, Ind.

Arnold continued her strong season on the women's team, notching second-place finishes and season-best marks with A times in the 100 breast (1:07.29) and 200 breast (2:25.40) and adding a top-season showing in the 200 IM (2:14.07).
