News & Notes from Around the League
The Butler University men's team opened League play on the right foot last weekend with a 6-1 over UW-Green Bay. The Bulldogs swept the top five singles spots and stole the doubles point en route to the win. Butler has now won three straight matches. On the women's side, the Bulldogs scored a non-conference victory over the University of Indianapolis in the only action of the week.

The Cleveland State University men defeated Chicago State last week to reach double digits in win match wins on the season with 10. The Vikings are the first Horizon League team to reach the ten-win mark this season. The CSU women need one more victory to reach the same plateau. Both Viking squads will look to increase their win totals this week as they travel to Hawaii for spring break matches.

The University of Detroit Mercy women were idle last week, preparing for the start of their League schedule. The Titans will face defending champion UIC on Friday, Mar. 9, followed by UW-Green Bay on Mar. 10.

The University of Illinois at Chicago women continue the defense of their Horizon League title this week as they take on Detroit. The home match, scheduled for Friday, March 9, is sandwiched between two non-League matches in DeKalb, Ill. Against Northern Illinois (Mar.8) and Northern Iowa (Mar. 10). The UIC men picked up a 4-0 non-conference win over Bradley last week, but will be idle until a three-match swing through Texas beginning Mar. 26.

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay women snapped a six-match losing streak last weekend with a 4-3 win over Wright State. With the win, the Phoenix also picked up its first victory in League play since downing UW-Milwaukee 5-2 on March 5, 2006.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women snapped a 10-match losing streak to Wright State when it defeated the Raiders 4-3 on Mar. 2. Prior to that victory, the Panthers had not downed WSU since April 4, 1998. The win over the Raiders also marked the second League victory for UWM this season, a feat the team had not accomplished since the 1997-98 season. With three weekend victories, the Panthers raised their season win total to eight, equaling the program's most since 1999-2000.

The Wright State University men began League play successfully last weekend, defeating UW-Green Bay 5-2. The men have now won four of their last six matches. The women, on the other hand, suffered two setbacks against League foes, falling to both UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee. Wright State is idle this week, with the men returning to action on Mar. 17 against Western Michigan and the women taking on Bowling Green on Mar. 18.

Both the Youngstown State University teams were idle last week. The women will host two non-conference matches this week as they face Robert Morris (Mar. 7) and Akron (Mar. 9) while the Penguin men head to Florida for spring break matches with Wesleyan University, Michigan Tech and Fairfield University.

Both Valparaiso University teams were idle last week. This week, the men face future League foe UW-Green Bay, while the women will host Appalachian State (Mar. 11), Long Island (Mar. 12) and Manhattan (Mar. 13).
