INDIANAPOLIS -- University of Wisconsin-Green Bay senior Dan Lindstrom (men's swimming) and Wright State University junior Whitney Lewis (women's basketball) have been named the Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Week, commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced Wednesday (Jan. 17).

Lindstrom helped UW-Green Bay to a pair of dual-meet victories against Butler University and the University of Illinois at Chicago on Sunday (Jan. 14). He won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:12.62 and claimed top honors with his 2:05.92 clocking in the 200-yard backstroke. He was edged out by eight one-hundredths of a second in the 400-yard individual medley.

In the classroom, Lindstrom owns a 3.50 grade-point average as an urban and regional studies major, earning Academic All-League recognition last winter. He was also a member of the League's Academic Honor Roll in each of the last four semesters.

Lewis was honored for the second time this year after averaging 17.5 points in two games for the Raiders last week. She tied her career-high with 21 points versus Loyola University Chicago last Thursday (Jan. 11), adding four rebounds and three assists. Lewis came back Saturday to post 14 points and six rebounds against UIC.

In the classroom, Lewis holds a perfect 4.000 grade-point average in her studies as a psychology major. She has received Highest Honors in each of her first seven quarters at the school, and was voted to the League's Academic All-League Team in 2005-06.

The Horizon League instituted the Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards for this academic year as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution and passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours, and perform well during the week's competition. Winners are selected by a group of League faculty athletic representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
