INDIANAPOLIS -- For the third time this season, a Horizon League goalkeeper anchors the back line of the Soccer America National "Team of the Week" announced Wednesday (Oct. 12). But University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee freshman Grant Fernstrum went one step further this week by receiving similar honors on the College Soccer News weekly listing announced on Monday (Oct. 10).

Fernstrum posted the first shutout of his collegiate career last week with a 2-0 victory over the University of Wisconsin (Oct. 4), and added two more whitewashes in League triumphs against Wright State University (2-0 on Oct. 7) and then-25th-ranked Butler University (2-0 on Oct. 9). The freshman netminder stopped 12 shots in those three outings, running his scoreless streak to 302:44. In his five starts, he has not allowed a goal other than two penalty kicks and owns a 0.37 goals-against average.

The Green Bay, Wis., native has helped lead the Panthers into Soccer America's national top 25, as the Panthers carry a 7-2-3 overall ledger into Wednesday's (Oct. 12) match versus League rival University of Illinois at Chicago.

He becomes the fifth different Horizon League player cited by SA this year, joining UIC goalkeeper Jeff Engelbrecht (Sept. 7), University of Detroit Mercy forward Andrew Ornoch (Sept. 21), Butler goalkeeper Frank Peabody (Oct. 5) and Loyola University Chicago midfielder Keum Sung Kim (Oct. 5).

The Soccer America "Team of the Week" has historically been recognized as one of the top honors available during the regular season.

Fernstrum is the Horizon League's first representative named by College Soccer News in 2005. San Francisco defender Rob Valentino was also named to both lists, along with Indiana midfielder Josh Tudela, Saint Louis midfielder John DiRaimondo, and Virginia Tech forward Patrick Nyarko and Ross McKenzie from top-ranked Akron.

The rest of the Soccer America "Team of the Week" includes defenders Pat McCaffery of Drexel and Lucas Richardson from Dartmouth, along with midfielder Ryan Zabinski from Robert Morris. The forward line features the nation's leading scorer in Campbell's Willy Guadarrama, along with Aaron King of North Carolina State.

CSN's list features Hartford's Carol Cudini on defense, with California's Pieter Berger and Andre Schmid of St. John's in the midfield plus forwards Randi Patterson of UNC Greensboro and Ryan Anderson of Missouri State.
