Korey Keller tossed the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's first shutout in more than two years to lead the third-seed Panthers to a 4-0 victory over fourth-seed Wright State University Friday in an elimination game of the 2005 Horizon League Baseball Championship at Victory Field.
With the win, UW-Milwaukee (24-30) advances to Saturday's consolation final at 11 a.m. Indianapolis local time against the loser of Friday's nightcap between top-seed University of Illinois at Chicago and second-seed Youngstown State University.
Keller allowed only one hit through the first six innings and never more than one in an inning for his first career shutout. It was UW-Milwaukee's first shutout since blanking Wright State 6-0 on April 12, 2003, in a game Keller won in relief.
The Panthers provided all the offense Keller needed in the bottom of the first inning on a leadoff double by Mike Goetz, followed by an RBI single to center by Brooks Graff.
They then chased Raiders starter Chris Coleman (3-4) in the sixth with no-doubt solo home runs by Zak Rivera and Rob Brockel, followed by a triple to the wall in right by Charlie Reschke. After Robert Barrett relieved Coleman, Reschke scored one out later on a passed ball.
The Raiders (26-33) threatened with two outs in the ninth against Keller when Ross Vagades singled and Brian Shoup reached on an error but Pat Masters grounded into a force at second to end the game.
Rivera's homer was his seventh of the season and Brockel's was his third.
Goetz, Joe Nowicki and Charlie Reschke had two hits apiece for the Panthers, who outhit Wright State 11-4.
