Horizon League teams went 5-8 to begin the 2005 Horizon League volleyball season. Butler (2-0) and Youngstown State (2-1) finished play this weekend with 2 wins apiece, while UW-Milwaukee went 1-1 at the Hawkeye Classic. Horizon League teams will play 25 matches this week, beginning with UW-Milwaukee at Charlotte on Thursday, Sept. 1.

Pasquinelli reaches milestone; Leslie, Fraley named to All-Tournament Team

Senior setter Angela Pasquinelli became just the third player in Youngstown State history to reach the 3.000 assist mark for her career. In doing so, she also broke her own school record by tallying 86 assists in the Penguins' win over Canisius at the Akron Early Bird Invitational. Junior Car Leslie and sophomore Jessica Fraley were each named to the All-Tournament team. In three weekend matches, Leslie recorded 46 kills and 60 digs while Fraley added 58 kills and 42 digs.

Knightley continues streak; newcomers excel in season opener for Butler

Junior libero Megan Knightley has posted double-figures in digs in 32 straight matches, a streak that dates back to the 2003 Horizon League Tournament. She posted 10 digs in the Bulldogs' win over Marian College and 15 in Saturday's win over Chicago State. All 13 players on the 2005 roster saw action in the season opener against Marian. Freshman Alicia Coltrane recorded 25 kills on the weekend while freshman setter Dana Daprile had 29 assists in each match.

Lone freshman makes her mark as UW-Milwaukee continues dominance in season openers

Becky Peters, the only freshman on the Panthers roster, started at libero in both weekend matches for UW-Milwaukee. She recorded 10 digs in a three-game win in Friday's opener against Drake and 12 in the loss to Iowa on Saturday. With the win over Drake, the Panthers have now won three consecutive home openers.

Hatcher returns after year-long absence from line-up

Senior libero Alisa Hatcher returned to the Cleveland State lineup on Saturday after missing a year of play while recovering from a pulmonary embollism suffered at the end of the 2003 season. Hatcher, a native of Bellafontaine, Ohio, recorded 17 digs against Toledo.

Duo posts dynamic weekend for UIC

Maura McCarthy, OH, and Katie Kozak, S, recorded double-doubles in the Flames' opener on Friday against Northern Illinois. McCarthy posted 11 kills and 12 digs while Kozak tallied 50 assists and 11 digs in the loss.

Wright State opens season with consecutive tournaments

Wright State opened its season on Saturday with losses to both SMU and the host Cardinals at the Ball State/Active Ankle Weekend. They continue their season at the Wyndham Atlanta/Georgia State Invitational this weekend. The Raiders take on Jacksonville State on Friday, Georgia State on Saturday afternoon and LSU in the Saturday evening match.

Rauen, Rosen step up for Phoenix in season opener

Junior setter Sarah Rauen racked up a team-best 10 digs and senior Jackie Rosen added 10 kills in UW-Green Bay's season-opening loss to Northwestern. Next up for the Phoenix is the Northern Illinois Comfort Inn & Suites Invitational.

Loyola starts season with Alabama Tournament

The Loyola Ramblers begin their season on Friday, Sept. 2 at the Hampton Inn Bama Bash with a first round match against host Alabama.

Felsing averaged 4.25 kills and 3.62 digs per game on her way to becoming the first Panther in the school's Division 1 history to record back-to-back triple-doubles. She tallied 15 kills, 15 digs and 21 assists in the Panthers' first match of the season on Friday versus Drake. On Saturday, Felsing tied her career-high with 18 kills, while adding 16 assists and 14 digs in a loss to Iowa at the Hawkeye Classic.

Cindric averaged 5.46 digs per game this weekend at the Akron Early Bird Invitational, including a career-high 30 in the Penguins' win over Canisius. She also recorded 28 digs in the win over Robert Morris and 13 in a loss to Akron for a total of 71 on the weekend.

Jessica Fraley
Youngstown State, OH., So., LaGrange, Wis.

Fraley was named to the Akron Early Bird Invitational All-Tournament team after averaging 4.46 kills and 3.23 digs per game. She set a YSU single-match record with 31 kills against Canisius. Fraley recorded an overall .307 hitting percentage while leading the Penguins to a 2-1 weekend record.

Katarina Nedeljkovic
UIC, RS, So., Kragujevac, Serbia and Montenegro

Nedeljkovic finished the opening week of the season with 35 kills, 17 digs and seven service aces in two weekend matches. She recorded a career high with 26 kills in UIC's five game loss to Northern Illinois on Friday, Aug. 26.

Danielle Siefker
Cleveland State, MH, Jr., Kalida, Ohio

Siefker jumped out to a quick start by recording a career-high 14 kills in Cleveland State's first match of the year. She also talled six blocks and recorded a hitting percentage of .560 in the match versus Toledo.

Alicia Coltrane
Butler, OH, Fr. El Paso, Texas

Coltrane posted back-to-back double-doubles in the first two matches of her Butler career. She recorded 10 kills in two games versus Marian College in the season opener and a match-high 15 in a three-game win over Chicago State on Saturday.

Jackie Rosen
UW-Green Bay, OH, Sr., West Allis, Wis.

Rosen led the Phoenix with 10 kills in the season-opening loss at Northwestern. She also recorded a .273 hitting percentage on the match.

Melissa Lange
UW-Milwaukee, S, Sr., Abbottsford, Wis.

Lange averaged 3.62 digs per game in two weekend matches, including a a career-high 18 digs in a loss to Iowa on Saturday. She also recorded 53 assists on the weekend.

Taylor Gerlach
Wright State, L., Jr. Wheaton, Ill.

Gerlach recorded 12 digs in Wright State's season-opening match versus SMU at the Ball State/Active Ankle Weekend. She also tallied 15 digs against tournament host Ball State on Saturday.

Susana Henri
Butler, OH, Jr., Vancouver, B.C.

Henri contributed on both the offensive and defensive fronts in first two matches of the season. In addition to tallying a career-high 11 kills in Friday's season opener against Marian College, Henri recorded a career-high 24 digs in Butler's win over Chicago State on Saturday. She added one block and two block assists on the weekend.

Sarah Rauen
UW-Green Bay, L, Jr., Stacy, Minn.

Rauen racked up a team-best 10 digs at Northwestern in the first match of the season for the Phoenix. She also added a team-high three service aces in the loss.
