Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week

 

Katarina Nedeljkovic

UIC, OH, So., Serbia & Montenegro

Nedeljkovic helped UIC to three road wins last week as the Flames remained the Horizon League's only unbeatean team.  She totaled 56 kills (5.09 kpg), 38 digs (3.45 dpg), eight blocks (0.73 bpg) and five service aces.  Nedeljkovic posted 20+ kills in two weekend matches with 20 in a win Butler on Friday and her first career 20-20 match with 22 kills and a career-best 20 digs in a five-game win over Wright State.

 

Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week

 

Becky Peters

UW-Milwaukee, L, Fr., Germantown, Wis.

Peters tallied 10 digs in a three-game win over Cleveland State on Friday and 24 in a five-game win over Youngstown State the following day.  Peters has reached double figures in digs in every match of her collegiate career, a steak of 18-straight matches.  Her 4.52 digs-per -game average is good for third in the Horizon League.

Abby Ettenhofer

Youngstown State, MH, Sr., Hebron, Ohio

Ettenhofer averaged 3.38 kills per game while hitting at a .442 clip in YSU's two weekend losses.  She also averaged 0.62 blocks per game.  Ettenhofer led the Penguins with 20 kills and a .514 hitting percentage in a five-game loss to UW-Milwaukee on Saturday.

 

Cheryl Hegemann

UW-Milwaukee, OH, Jr., Waterford, Wis.

Hegemann tied a school-record for kills in a five-game match as she pounded down a season-high 28 kills in the Panthers' five-game win over Youngstown State.  For the weekend, she averaged 5.25 kills and 2.62 digs per game while adding six blocks and four service aces.

 

Lisa Griffith

Wright State, MB, Sr., Muncie, Ind.

Griffith averaged 2.08 kills and 1.08 blocks per game this weekend as the Raiders fell to Loyola and UIC.  She recorded a .389 hitting percentage against Loyola, while tallying four blocks and performing at a .478 hitting clip with another four blocks against UIC.

 

Michelle DeGeeter

Butler, OH, So., Warsaw, Ind.

DeGeeter led the Bulldogs to a split of two League matches over the weekend.  She tallied a career-high 15 kills in just three games while posting a .433 hitting percentage in a loss to UIC.  DeGeeter added nine kills, four digs and three blocks in a win over Loyola on Saturday.

 

Jackie Rosen

UW-Green Bay, OH, Sr, West Allis, Wis.

Rosen averaged 6.0 kills per game over the weekend for the Phoenix.  In a three-game sweep of Youngstown State, Rosen earned a double-double of 19 kills and 12 digs.  She also added 17 kills in a loss to Cleveland State.  For the season, Rosen leads the Horizon League with her rate of 4.70 kills per game.

 

Nickole Kennedy

Cleveland State, Opp., Sr., Sunbury, Ohio

Kenendy led CSU offensively last week as the Vikings earned a split in League matches. She paced the VIkings with 11 kills in a loss to UW-Milwaukee, then pounded out 17 kills on .353 in a win over UW-Green Bay.  For the week, Kennedy averaged 4.67 kpg and a .333 hitting percentage.

 

Courtney Ashley

Loyola, OH, Jr., Naperville, Ill.

Ashley averaged 3.13 kills and 3.75 digs per game as the Ramblers split a pair of conference road matches over the weekend. She tallied nine kills and 16 digs in a win over Wright State and a team-high 16 kills and 14 digs in a loss to Butler.   Ashley is averaging 3.11 kpg and 3.67 dpg in Loyola's five Horizon League contests.

 

Julie Popp

UIC, L, Sr., Chicago, Ill.

Popp helped UIC to a perfect 3-0 week with 42 digs out of the back row.  After a seven-dig effort in limited duty in a sweep of Chicago State, Popp tallied 14 digs at Butler and a career-best 21 digs at Wright State.  Popp has now recorded double-digit digs in five of her last six matches.

 

Amanda Cindric

Youngstown State, DS, Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa.

Cindric averaged 4.00 digs per game for the Penguins over the weekend with 24 digs in six games. For the season, Cindric leads YSU with 287 digs and is second in the Horizon League with 4.63 digs per game. 

 

Taylor Gerlach

Wright State, L, Jr., Wheaton, Ill.

Gerlach recorded a 4.37 digs per game averaged in two Raider losses over the weekend.  She posted a match-high 26 digs against UIC in addition to 14 against Loyola.

 

Megan Knightly

Butler, L, Sr., Chicago, Ill.

Knightly amassed 38 digs over the weekend in a pair of League matches, including an 18-dig performance in a loss to UIC and a match-high 20 in a four-game win over Loyola.  For the season, Knightly leads the Horizon League with a 5.19 dpg average.  Knightly also received 63 serves over the weekend, while committing only two reception errors. She has had 10 or more digs per game in 47 of her last 48 matches.

 

Sarah Rauen

UW-Green Bay, L, Jr., Stacy, Minn.

Rausen posted two consecutive 14-dig efforts over the weekend for the Phoenix.  On the season, Rauen is averaging 4.30 digs per game.  She also leads the Phoenix with 18 service aces on the season.

 

Emily Clark

Cleveland State, OH, Sr., Bolivar, Ohio

Clark paced the Vikings defensively with a pair of double-digit dig performances, including 14 digs at UW-Milwaukee on Friday and a team-high 12 in a win over UW-Green Bay.  On the week, Clark averaged 4.33 dpg and 0.83 blocks per game.

 

Vikings return home; will honor former standout Jamie Bouyer.

After opening the Horizon League season with four of its first five matches on the road, CSU returns home for seven of its next eight conference tilts.  The Vikings will kick off a six-game homestand by hosting non-League opponent Oakland, followed by "Alumni Weekend" matches with UIC and Loyola.  Saturday's match against Loyola will feature a special ceremony honoring Jamie Bouyer, who last year became the first All-American in school history.

 

Penguins continue defensive excellence; setter Pasquinelli reaches new milestone

For the fourth week in a row, Youngstown State is ranked among the 25 best teams in NCAA Division I for digs per game.  The Penguins were ranked 19th according to statistics released Tueday, Oct. 4, with a 18.27 digs per game average. The 19th rank was down two spots from last week and eight from the week of Sept. 17.   YSU had previously been ranked as high as fourth (week of Sept. 11).  Murray State currently leads all teams with a 20.20 digs per game average.

 

With her 59 assists in the five-game loss to UW-Milwaukee, senior setter Angie Pasquinelli became just the third player in school history to record 3,500 assists in a career, joining Jamie Pirotte (1993-1996) with 3,724 and Melisaa Lyczkowski (1998-2001) with 4,820.  Pasquinelli now has 3. 528 assists for her career.

 

Flames face grueling road test; Trio leads UIC offense, Horizon League.

UIC's three road wins over the weekend opened a grueling October schedule that features only one home date in 10 matches. The two road wins at Butler and Wright State bucked a recent trend of home dominance for the Horizon League, as teams had entered last week's action at 1-13 on the road in League matches.  UIC also boats the only three player combination to rank within the top 10 in the Horizon League for kills. Katarina Nedeljkovic is second with 4.53 kpg, Maura McCarthy is fourth with a 3.61 average and Ambria Springer comes in sixth with a 3.52 kills per game average.

 

Slinger named CVU.com National Player of the Week; Phoenix look to improve road record.

Setter Betty Slinger was honored by Collegiate Volleyball Update last wekk as the CVU.com National Player of the week for Sept. 25-Oct. 2.  The sophomore from Faribault, Minn. averaged 15.00 assists, 2.00 kills and 3.12 digs on a .393 hitting percenage in two victories for the Phoenix.  Slinger was also honored as the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week.  She currently leads all Horizon League setters with a 12.33 assists per game average.

 

UW-Green Bay looks to improve its road record this weekend as the Phoenix travels to Milwaukee to face off with the Panthers on Friday night.  Currently, UW-Green Bay boasts a 6-1 home record, but the team is only 1-5 in matches away from the Phoenix Sports Center.

 

Four Panthers set career-highs win weekend win; UWM extends win streak to four

Four Panthers achieved new career-bests in the five-game win over Youngstown State on Saturday.  Three players recorded career-highs in kills with Cheryl Hegemann tallying 28, Sarah Moore recording 18 and Jamie Gabrielson pounding home 10.  Setter Melissa Lange also set a new career-high with 69 assists while tying her personal best with five kills. With that win, UWM extended its win streak to a season-high four matches.  In each of the last two seasons, the Panthers have rattled off 11-game win streaks.

 

Butler welcomes Wright State, Bulldog alums for Homecoming weekend; Daprile continues to impress

Butler will celebrate its Homecoming weekend with a match against Wright State on Friday, Oct. 14 and an exhibition showdown with former Bulldogs on Oct. 15. Freshman Dana Daprile continues to impress as she narrowly missed a triple-double against Loyola on Saturday.  She posted a career-high 11 kills on a .625 hitting percentage to go wih 33 assists and eight digs in the four-game win. 

 

Kimbro continues to lead Wright State offense; Raiders look to improve record on the road.

Sophomore Alisha Kimbro recorded double-doubles in both Raider matches over the weekend.  She tallied 19 kills and 15 digs in a loss to Loyola on Friday and 13 kills nad 12 digs in a five-game setback to UIC on Saturday.   Wright State, now 5-11 overall and 1-5 in the Horizon League, hits the road for two weeks, starting with a trip to Indiana next weekend to face Butler on Friday, October 14, and IPFW in nonleague action on Saturday, October 15.

 

Ramblers continue dominance over Wright State, earn first road win in League play

Loyola continued its dominance over Wright State as they defeated the Raiders for the 12th-straight time on Friday night. The 3-1 win at McClin Gymnasium also marked the first road win in League play for the Ramblers.    Loyola, now 4-12 and 3-2 in the Horizon League, hosts non-League foe Bradley on Tuesday, then welcomes Cleveland State and Youngstown State to Alumni Gym for weekend matches.
