Horizon League Player of the Week

Emily Peick
Loyola

Junior, Goalkeeper
Mendota Heights, Minn.

After sitting out a match the previous week due to injury, Peick came back to record two shutouts with 12 saves in a 2-0 week for the Ramblers. The junior co-captain tallied five saves in a 1-0 win at Youngstown State Oct. 6 as Loyola captured its first League win of the season. She then stopped seven shots in a 2-0 victory over Mid-Continent Conference-leading Valparaiso Oct. 9.

Other Top Performances for the Week of October 10

Meredith Buemi, Butler
Senior, Forward, Westerville, Ohio
Buemi posted the game-winner in Butler's 2-1 overtime win at Cleveland State Sunday afternoon. Buemi's golden goal 2:09 into the first overtime period was her third score of the 2005 season and her team-leading second game-winner.

Erin Withrow, Cleveland State
Freshman, Goalkeeper, Cincinnati, Ohio
Withrow made a career-high 12 saves against Detroit last Friday and followed that up with 11 more stops against Butler, her fourth double-figure save match of the season and third in a row.

Lauren Moss, DetroitF
reshman, Defender/Midfield, Berkley, Mich.
Moss put together her best week yet as a Titan with a goal and two assists as Detroit went undefeated. Against Niagara on Monday, Moss recorded her career tally with a missile of a shot from about 10 yards out. On Friday at Cleveland State, the freshman defender/midfielder had the assist on both Detroit scores.

Amanda Winn, UW-Milwaukee
Sophomore, Defender, Wauwatosa, Wis.
Winn scored the equalizer in UWM's tie with Wright State Sunday. Trailing 1-0, Winn drilled a free kick far post from 25 yards out for the game-tying score. She also played all 110 minutes of the 1-1 draw on defense, allowing just three Raider shots after halftime.

Stephanie Gross, UW-Green Bay
Junior, Forward, Fond du Lac, Wis.
UW-Green Bay improved to 3-2 in the Horizon League thanks to Gross' game-winning goal against Wright State Oct. 7. Gross leads the Phoenix with six goals on the season and is tied for the team lead in points with 15, while her game-winner was the second of the season and fifth of her career.

Lindsay Ferrua, Wright State
Senior, Defender, Oregonia, Ohio
Ferrua scored her first goal of the season in the 32nd minute in the Raiders game at UW-Green Bay. The goal was the first tally of the game and would eventually help the Raiders to a 1-1 draw against the Phoenix.

Brittny Humphrey, Youngstown State
Sophomore, Forward. Liberty, Ohio
Humphrey led Youngstown State to their first victory of the season against league opponent Butler on Saturday afternoon. Humphrey scored one goal each half in the 2-0 shutout at home.

UW-Milwaukee Panthers
(6-4-3 overall, 3-0-1 Horizon League)
Milwaukee's 11-game league winning streak came to an end, but it is now a 12-game league unbeaten streak.

The Panthers have now played five overtime games this season. This was the first that featured goals scored in regulation.

Wright State's goal was the first allowed by Milwaukee at Engelmann Field since Sept. 4, a span of 364:23.

Detroit Titans
(5-3-4 overall, 2-0-1 Horizon League)
The Titans stay on the road Friday at Loyola before coming home for Senior Day against Milwaukee on Oct. 16. Titan Athletics will pause to honor our three women's soccer seniors, Kathy Banjavcic, Jessy Barrett and Allison Epple.

Senior defender Allison Epple has turned into a scoring threat as of late in league matches with her goals against Green Bay, which was the game winner and he goal at Cleveland State.

With their four ties thus far in 2005, the Titans have more ties this season than the last two combined. In 2003 and 2004 Detroit had just one tie in each season. The five draws are the most since the 2002 season when the Red and White set the school record with five.

UW-Green Bay Phoenix
(6-6-1 overall, 3-2-0 Horizon League)
Sophomore goalkeeper Brooke Wikgren moved into fifth place in UW-Green Bay history with her fifth career shutout against Wright State Oct. 7. Wikgren made two stops in the shutout, the fourth this season for the Phoenix and second for Wikgren.

UW-Green Bay will conclude its six-game Horizon League string Friday, Oct. 14 when the squad takes on Butler in Indianapolis. Three of UW-Green Bay's final four games are non-league matchups, starting Sunday, Oct. 16 at IPFW.

Wright State Raiders
(6-4-3 overall, 1-1-2 Horizon League)
The Green and Gold are currently 3-2-3 after eight games on their monster ten-game road trip, spanning over the last month. The Raiders dropped the first game of the roadie to Dayton, 1-0 and fell in a 1-0 match at UW-Green Bay. The Raiders have defeated Air Force 2-0, Kent State 4-3 in overtime and Youngstown State 1-0, while tying Detroit, UW-Milwaukee and Northern Colorado, all 1-1 games.

Junior Goalie Steph Comisar lowered her GAA this weekend on the Raiders trip through Wisconsin. Comisar made eleven saves on the weekend and now has 44 saves on the season to go along with four shut-outs. Her GAA of 0.95 is just above her total from last season of 0.92, a season that saw Comisar pitch six shut-outs.

Loyola Ramblers
(5-5-1 overall, 1-1-0 Horizon League)
The Ramblers continue their three-match homestand this week with a couple of Horizon League contests against Detroit (Oct. 14) and Butler (Oct. 16).

Senior Jamie Wasielew-ski is now tied for fourth place in LU's career assist annals after tallying a helper against Valparaiso.

Freshman Pam Staton became the second Rambler to score her first collegiate goal with a tally against Valpo.

Butler Bulldogs
(5-6-2 overall, 1-2-0 Horizon League)
Sunday's win was the first overtime win for Butler since beating Detroit in double overtime in the semifinals of the 2002 Horizon League Tournament. The Bulldogs were 0-2-5 in their seven overtime contests since that result.

In addition to taking her 100th career shot Sunday, senior Meredith Buemi is now just one goal shy of Butler's Top Ten. She now has 15 career scores. Buemi is already entrenched on Butler's Top Ten lists for assists (15, sixth) and points (45, tenth).

Youngstown State Penguins
(1-13-0 overall, 1-2-0 Horizon League)
Youngstown State posted its first win of the season with a 2-0 shutout of Butler on Saturday.

Sophomore forward Brittny Humphrey scored both of the Penguins' goals in the win. She now has three of YSU's four goals on the season.

Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Bestard made her first start of the season and blanked Butler for Youngstown State's first shutout of the year. It was only Bestard's second appearance in the net.

Cleveland State Vikings
(0-14-0 overall, 0-4-0 Horizon League)
Despite going winless last week in matches against Detroit and Butler, the improvement that the Vikings have made since last year was obvious simply by comparing the final scores of those matches. CSU lost at Butler, 6-0 last year but took the Bulldogs to overtime on Sunday. The improvement is even more dramatic against Detroit, a team that CSU lost 13-0 to last year.

Freshman goalie Erin Withrow has stepped up her performance over the course of the last seven matches, recording 62 saves to take over the Horizon League lead with 89 saves this season. Withrow made a career-high 12 saves against Detroit last Friday and followed that up with 11 more stops against Butler, her fourth double-figure save match of the season and third in a row.
