News From Around the League

UW-Milwaukee (17-5, 9-1 HL)

Senior Cheryl Hegemann is nearing a number of career milestones. She is just six kills shy of 1,000 for her career and just 10 blocks shy of moving into the top spot in school history for career blocks.

UWM finished the month of October with an 8-1 mark and has now gone 84-7 in October over the last 10 seasons. The Panthers have continued their strong play away from home this season. UWM has now won 29 of its last 33 Horizon League regular-season road matches and the Panthers are 9-4 on the road overall this season.

Loyola (13-13, 6-5 HL)

Senior libero Ann Deelo extended her single-season school record for digs, reaching exactly 500 digs on the nose after digging 20 balls in the win over Cleveland State on Saturday. She currently sits 57 digs behind Megan Knightly's (Butler 2002-05) Horizon League record of 1,737 career digs.

Wright State (13-12, 7-3 HL)

With the win at Butler Friday, the Raiders surpassed their entire win total of 2005. The 13 wins are the most since WSU went 16-13 in 2003. The victory moved Wright State over the .500 mark for the first time this season and for the first time since the end of that 2003 campaign. The decision also gave WSU seven wins in the Horizon League, marking just the third time that the Raiders have won more than six League contests since joining the circuit in 1994 (9-5 in 1995, 11-3 in 2001).

The Raiders recorded 12 blocks in the road win against Butler, stretching their double-figure block streak to three. WSU has had 11 double-figure block matches overall this season, five of those coming in Horizon League play.

After a light schedule last week, Wright State has three matches on the slate this week as the Raiders host IPFW in the final non-League match of the year on Tuesday followed by trips to Cleveland State on Friday and Youngstown State on Saturday.

Cleveland State (16-7, 6-5 HL)

Cleveland State returns home for a pair of matches on the next-to-last weekend of the regular season. The Vikings will face Wright State on Friday (Nov. 3) at 7:00 p.m. followed by a 4:00 p.m. Alumni Day affair with Butler the next afternoon.

The Vikings, who have earned a split in each of the five League weekends featuring a pair of matches, currently stand in a tie for fourth with Loyola. CSU is 9-1 on Fridays this season.

With 33 digs last week, sophomore libero Jordan Bateman improved her team-best total to 355. In her first year as a starter, she is 29 digs away from moving into the top 10 on the CSU single- season charts.

UIC (15-13, 8-3 HL)

UIC posted a 1-1 week at home versus Cleveland State and Youngstown State. The Flames fell in four games to the Vikings on Friday followed by an impressive sweep over the Penguins on Saturday.

Junior Katarina Nedeljkovic paced UIC on offense, averaging 4.43 kills per game in two matches. Senior Katie Kozak owned a team-high .391 attack percentage with 83 assists and 21 digs. Senior Maura McCarthy recorded her first double-double of the season versus YSU with ten kills and 13 digs.

Senior Ambria Springer guided UIC at the net with nine blocks and junior Amanda Kenny provided a steady outing in two matches with 24 kills, 16 digs and three blocks.

The Flames take their final three regular season matches on the road, tangling with UW-Milwaukee on Nov. 3 and UW-Green Bay on Nov. 4. UIC then wraps up the schedule across town against League foe Loyola on Nov. 9.

Butler (7-18, 2-8 HL)

The 2006 Bulldogs climbed into the record books with their blocking performance against Wright State on Friday, totaling 367 this season for the 10th-highest single season mark in school history.

Senior Krystal Hendrix touts 397 career block assists and stands just 16 block assists away from reaching Amy Pickett's  Butler career record of 413.

Sophomore libero Nina Inic continues to be one of the top defensive players In the Horizon League, leading the Bulldogs with 312 digs overall and 209 in conference play.

UW-Green Bay (10-14, 4-6 HL)

Phoenix senior Sarah Rauen enters play this weekend with a shot at becoming UW-Green Bay's career leader in digs. Rauen comes into Friday's match against Loyola with 1,406 career digs, just 29 shy of the school record of 1,435 held by Janelle Tomlinson (2000-03).

UW-Green Bay will be out to snap a four-match skid as it closes out its home season this Friday and Saturday when it takes on Loyola and UIC, respectively. Saturday afternoon's match against the Flames will also be Senior Day as the team will honor Sarah Rauen.

With a pair of wins this weekend, the Phoenix can match the 2005 team's total of eight home wins, a mark that ranks second in the program's Division I history.

Youngstown State (9-19, 0-11 HL)

With six blocks over the weekend, Ruth Boscaljon moved into 10th place on the single-season top-10 blocks chart. She currently has 118 total blocks and passed Dina Hartman (1989) with 117. Sophomore Karla Everhart needs 29 more assists to reach the 1,000 assist mark for the season. She would become the seventh player in school history to reach at least 1,000 assists in a single season. Freshman Ruth Boscaljon became the second YSU freshman in the last three years to record at least 300 kills in a season. The last to do so was Jessica Fraley with 360 in 2004.
