2007 Swimming & Diving Championships: Day One Results

On the men's side, the Raiders lead runner-up Cleveland State University 140 to 96. In third, the University of Illinois Chicago totaled 87 points. Rounding out the group are the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with 81 points, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay with 76 and Butler University with 65.
Wright State leads on the women's side with 170.50 points, ahead of UW-Milwaukee with 154.50 and UW-Green Bay at 139. UIC (109), Youngstown State (60), Cleveland State (54) and Butler (50) round out the group.
The host UIC women started the day off in impressive fashion, smashing the Horizon League record in the 200 freestyle relay. The Flames team of Kelly Hyatt, Emily Biancalana, Andrea Giczewski and Colleen Dougherty took the title with a time of 1:35.24, finishing just ahead of defending champion UW-Green Bay (1:35.45) and UW-Milwaukee (1:35.56), both of whom also bested the previous record of 1:35.65 set at last year's championships by the Phoenix. UIC continued to enjoy the benefits of their home pool in the second event final of the day, as the men's 200 relay team also claimed the Horizon League title.
Wright State junior Catalina Martinez won her third consecutive League title in the 1000 freestyle, touching the wall in 10:18.56, more than three seconds ahead of UW-Green Bay's Molly Cox in the runner-up position at 10:21.70. On the men's side, Wright State junior Scott Lang knocked nearly six seconds off his Horizon League season-best time as he finished in 9:21.84 to edge out teammate Will Ehresman and defending champion Bjorn Schantz of Cleveland State to win the 1000 free title.
UW-Milwaukee's Emily Duesler captured the only other individual title of the night, taking the top spot on the women's 3-meter board. Her total of 295 points topped the previous Horizon League season best by 0.15 points.
In the evenings other action, the UW-Green Bay women successfully defended their 2006 title in the 200 Medley Relay, taking the top spot in a time of 1:46.17. The Cleveland State men earned the title on the men's side by touching the wall in 1:30.91, ahead of Wright State at 1:32.04.
The championships continue Thursday with finals in the 50 and 500 freestyle, 200 IM 400 Medley Relay and men's 1-meter diving.
