INDIANAPOLIS -- The Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held in Chicagoland for the first time in 2009, the League office announced Thursday, Aug. 21.

The University of Illinois at Chicago and Loyola University Chicago will serve as co-hosts for the event May 1-3 at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle, Ill. More than 40 individual and relay champions will be crowned, culminating with the crowning of the men's and women's team champions.

Ticket prices will be determined at a later date.

"We are excited to co-host the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships with the UIC coaching staff and administration," said Rick Wemple, Loyola's head track and field coach. "The facility at Benedictine is fantastic for track and field athletes and for fans as all events can be seen from the stands. With two schools in the Chicagoland area, we'll have plenty of families coming out to watch their kids compete, and that should provide for an exciting atmosphere for all the student-athletes."

"I'm very excited to be able to co-host the meet with Loyola and showcase our team to the parents and fans in the Chicago area," said UIC head track and field coach Jim Knoedel. "It will be a great opportunity to have some of our alumni attend and show their support for the program and also give us a better shot at getting a top team finish."

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is the five-time defending men's outdoor track and field champion and has won 10 of the 11 in League history. Youngstown State University captured the 2008 women's title and has won four of the last five, with Milwaukee interrupting that run in 2007.

The Horizon League's 2008 outdoor track and field championships were held in Youngstown, Ohio, following 10 years in Indianapolis.
