Cleveland State 70, Lake Erie 51
With 18 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists Shalonda Winton recorded her second triple-double of the season, as she led the Cleveland State women's basketball team to a 70-51 victory over Lake Erie Sunday afternoon. The win improved the Vikings to 8-4 on the season, while also extending their win streak to seven games and giving them a perfect 6-0 record during the month of December.

Winton, who recorded her first triple-double against Miami (Ohio) on Dec. 8, is now the third player in program history to have two triple-doubles on their career, joining Ashley Schrock and Sue Koziol.

Along with Winton, Imani Gordon also tallied double-digits for CSU, posting 12 points and three rebounds. Cori Coleman added eight points and a career-high five steals, while Honesty King recorded six points and six rebounds and Kaila Montgomery posted six points and seven boards.

After getting out to a slow start, Cleveland State went on a 14-0 run beginning at the 13:24 mark of the first half, gaining a 17-point advantage (25-8) which they would never relinquish. Over the next 3:05 CSU went on a 6-4 run to gain their largest lead of the half at 31-12 with 6:24 left to play. The Vikings were able to hold on to the double-digit lead for the rest of the half, going into the break with a 14-point lead at 38-24.

To open the second half, Lake Erie went on a 6-2 run bringing the score within 10 points at 40-30, but that would be as close as they would get as CSU responded with 11 straight points to put its lead back to 51-30.

The Vikings were able to gain a 20-point advantage two more times throughout the final 10:29 - on a Winton layup (55-34) and on a Jasmine Flanagan three-pointer (62-42). CSU closed out the contest with eight points from three different players in the final 2:49, earning the 70-51 victory.

As a team, CSU shot 52-percent from the floor (28-for-53), including a .577 clip (15-for-26) during the first half. The Vikings recorded 22 assists on their 28 made field goals along with a season-high 17 steals.

Green Bay 63, Wichita State 42
The Green Bay women's basketball team (9-2) used a team effort and an explosive second half to defeat Wichita State (6-6) 63-42 in its final nonconference road game of the 2012-13 season. The win featured eight Phoenix players in double-digit minutes and 17 assists on 23 field goals.

Green Bay opened the game on an 8-0 run, sparked by threes from seniors Lydia Bauer and Adrian Ritchie. The Shockers responded with a 9-2 run of their own over the next five minutes led by Jessica Diamond, who finished the first half with a team-high nine points.

Both teams struggled from the floor in the first half, with the Phoenix posting a 28% mark and the Shockers hitting just 25% from the field. Bauer led Green Bay with nine first-half points on 3-of-6 shooting from long range, while fellow senior Sarah Eichler pitched in eight.

Green Bay shot 77.8 percent (14-18) from the field in the second half, and opened it on a 12-5 run with a turn-around layup by redshirt senior Jenny Gilberton. Gilbertson played 24 minutes, tallying five points and five rebounds.

With four fouls each, Ritchie and Eichler were forced to head to the bench with more than 11 minutes remaining. Green Bay's bench, led by redshirt junior Breannah Ranger didn't miss a beat while pushing the lead to more than 20 points. The Phoenix held the Shockers scoreless for more than seven minutes late in the half on a 13-0 run, sparked by Ranger's nine points and team-high six rebounds.

Green Bay held the Shockers to just 29.7 percent from the floor, and allowed the home team to score just seven points over the last 10 minutes of the second half.

Eichler led the Phoenix with 15 points, while Bauer added 11. Ritchie and redshirt Sophomore Megan Lukan added seven points. Lukan also posted seven assists on the day, one shy of tying her career high.

The win marked the eighth time this season Green Bay has held an opponent to 50 points or less, and the Phoenix continued its dominance in the paint outscoring the Shockers 26-6 inside.

Wright State 53, Morehead State 46
Behind 22 points and 14 rebounds from Horizon League Preseason Player of the Year Kim Demmings, Wright State was able to hold off Morehead State 53-46 on Sunday night to even its record at 6-6 on the season.

The Raiders never trailed in the second half, leading by as much as 12 points at 43-31 with 6:43 left in the game. The Eagles’ Kelsey Funderburgh got MSU back in the game by making a three-pointer on three consecutive possessions to cut WSU’s lead to 43-40 with 5:08 left in the game. Another Eagle three-pointer with 3:27 remaining in the game cut Wright State’s lead to 45-43 and another MSU three-pointer with 1:17 left in the game would again bring the game to within one possession at 49-46. The Raiders clinched the contest by making four consecutive free throws.

The first half was back-and-forth with both teams going on runs. Wright State went on the final run of the half – a 7-0 streak in the final two minutes - to take a 26-22 lead into the break.

The Raiders won despite shooting 32.1 percent (18-56) from the field, including just 21.7 percent (5-23) from three-point range. Wright State’s defense limited Morehead State to 29.8 percent shooting from the field and also outrebounded the Eagles by 17 for the game.

Demmings was joined in double figures by Brianna Innocent with 11 points and Ivory James with 10.
