INDIANAPOLIS -- 984 student-athletes achieved academic honor roll distinctions for the fall of 2016 semester with all ten members and 19 Horizon League sponsored sports represented.
Belmont as an affiliate member for men’s soccer had six student-athletes denoted on the list.
Candidates for the Honor Roll must meet three criteria in order to qualify:
1) participation in at least one of the League’s 19 sports during the most recent (or current) season.
2) completion of three semesters (or four quarters, where applicable) as a full-time student at the same member institution.
3) a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).
For the seventh straight semester Oakland headed the list with 147 student-athletes, which is the most student-athletes that the school has placed on the honor roll since joining the Horizon League in the 2013-14 academic year. Youngstown State hit the century mark with 119 student-athletes earning recognition. Valparaiso and Milwaukee both reached triple-digits with 110 and 107 spots on the honor roll. Wright State claimed 97 positions on the honor roll with Northern Kentucky just one behind with 96 honorees. Green Bay had 88 student-athletes meet the criteria, and Detroit Mercy had 76 reach the requirements. UIC accumulated 71 honorees while Cleveland State finished with 69 recipients.
Women’s soccer has the most student-athletes represented for the fourth straight semester with 139 making the cut. Following close behind is women’s track & field/ cross country with 134 honorees. Topping the list for male sports is track & field/ cross country with 98 student-athletes recognized. Women’s swimming and Diving received 82 spots while the men notched 61 honorees. Softball and volleyball both claimed 69 honor roll accolades while men’s soccer followed closely behind with 68 members. Baseball garnered 65 slots, women’s basketball improved with 49 recipients and women’s tennis placed 39. Women’s golf (35), men’s golf (31), men’s tennis (26) and men’s basketball (19) rounded out the list.
