INDIANAPOLIS – Cleveland State junior Andrew Bailey has been named Horizon League Men’s Golfer of the Week, while Detroit junior Christina Thorne has been named Horizon League Women’s Golfer of the Week in the first weekly golf awards of the spring season.

Bailey took home second place honors at the Benbow Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla., after falling in a playoff. The Rocky River, Ohio native shot a three-over-par 74 to sit in 15th place after one round of play, but on the final day of competition, Bailey shot a career-low round score of 67 – four-under-par -  to comeback and force a playoff tiebreaker. The Vikings finished in fifth place out of the 14 teams.

Cleveland State returns to the links on Monday when it travels to Memphis, Tenn., to compete in the Memphis Intercollegiate.

Thorne won the Women’s Golfer of the Week award after taking home medalist honors in Detroit’s most recent outing. The Kingston, Ontario native shot a 77 in the first round and a tournament best 73 in the final round to win by four strokes with a two round score of 150 at the 3rd Annual Sunshine Spring Classic. The Titans won the event by 38 strokes as their 610 score was the fifth best 36-hole tournament tally in Titan history.

In earlier spring tournaments, Thorne placed second with a 152 (74 - 78) at the Magnolia Spring Break Classic, falling in a playoff, and tied for second with a 78 at the Titan Tri-Match.

During the Titans Spring Break playing schedule, she helped Detroit sweep its Florida trip by winning the Magnolia Spring Break Classic, the Titan Tri-Match and 3rd Annual Sunshine Spring Classic. It was UDM’s fourth-straight win on the season and the sixth in seven events on the year.

Detroit’s next tournament is the IPFW Spring Classic from March 31-April 1.
