HORIZON LEAGUE TEAM NOTES

BUTLER BULLDOGS (9-32 overall, 5-14 HL)

  • Butler had a full week off from games for the first time in 2009. The Bulldogs have been idle since an April 26 twinbill against Youngstown State.

  • Butler returns to action on Wednesday with a doubleheader at Cincinnati.

CLEVELAND STATE VIKINGS (16-25 overall, 8-10 HL)

  • Senior Drew Fronczek recorded the final six outs of Sunday's second game to earn his team-leading fourth save of the season.

  • Sophomore Travis Miller earned his first career save by working a perfect ninth inning in Saturday's victory over Milwaukee.

  • Freshman Alex Johnson whacked his team-leading sixth triple of the season on Wednesday against Pittsburgh, tying the Cleveland State single-season record.

  • Junior Ryan Franks is hitting a team-best .404 this season. CSU has not had a player hit .400 or better since 2000.

MILWAUKEE PANTHERS (21-21 overall, 10-6 HL)

  • Sophomore Cole Kraft enters the week with a team and career-best 15-game hitting streak. Kraft is hitting .481 (26-for-54) during stretch.

  • Senior Craig Meier saved both ends of a doubleheader on Tuesday against Northern Illinois. UWM defeated the Huskies by scores of 5-2 and 6-4.

  • Senior Shawn Wozniak has tallied 298 fielding chances without an error this season.

UIC FLAMES (21-20 overall, 13-5 HL)

  • UIC, with a first-place mark of 13-5 in Horizon League play, has won five of its last six contests overall.

  • Junior Chris Rutta is hitting .500 (11-for-22) with three doubles, three homers, 14 RBI and a 1.136 slugging percentage over his last seven games.

  • Freshman Nathan Orf is hitting .500 (16-for-32) with five doubles, one long ball, four RBI and a .750 slugging clip over his last nine games.

  • Freshman Matt Salemi is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA over his last five outings.

VALPARAISO CRUSADERS (23-20 overall, 9-9 HL)

  • Valparaiso had its five-game winning streak snapped on Saturday in the series finale against Youngstown State.

  • Sophomore Jarad Miller, who collected three saves last week, broke the school's single-season record with his 13th save in game one of Saturday's twinbill. Miller owns 22 saves in his Valparaiso career.

  • Senior Matt Lenski continues to lead the Horizon League in batting average (.422) after hitting .389 in five contests last week.

  • Senior Dan DeBruin's homer in game two of Saturday's doubleheader was the first of his career.

WRIGHT STATE RAIDERS (23-24 overall, 10-9 HL)

  • Wright State recorded its second straight week with a batting average of .400 or better last week. The Raiders cranked out 19 extra-base hits and scored 48 runs en route to a .413 clip over four games.

  • All 11 Wright State players who started a game during the last week collected at least three hits and each of them drove in runs during the week.

  • Senior Jeff Mercer (23) is just three doubles shy of tying Wright State's single-season record, held by Justin Parker (26).

  • Jeff Mercer is just one RBI away from becoming only the second player in school history to post back-to-back seasons with 50+ RBI. He drove in 53 last season and has 49 this year.

YOUNGSTOWN STATE PENGUINS (13-30 overall, 9-11 HL)

  • Youngstown State scored a season-best 13 runs on Saturday at Valparaiso. The Penguins have now scored at least six runs in five of the last six games and posted at least 10 hits in four of the last six. Entering last week, YSU had scored more than three runs or had more than 10 hits just twice in the previous 10 games.

  • Youngstown State picked up its first non-conference win since March 15 on Wednesday when it defeated Marshall, 8-5. The Penguins had lost eight straight non-League contests and had five more cancelled due to poor weather.

  • Freshman Jonathan Crist hit a rare inside-the-park grand slam in the finale at Valparaiso. It was his first career home run, which extended YSU's lead to 7-2. It was also the Penguins' first grand slam or inside the park home run this season.
