HORIZON LEAGUE TEAM NOTES

BUTLER BULLDOGS (1-8 overall, 0-0 HL)

Throughout the spring, Butler will celebrate its 100th season of baseball. To date, the Bulldogs have tallied a 1,145-1,337-11 all-time record, eight conference championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances.

Butler has 11 seniors on its 2009 roster -- the most in the Horizon League this season.

CLEVELAND STATE VIKINGS (2-7 overall, 0-0 HL)

Cleveland State snapped a five-game losing streak with an 11-6 win over Dayton on Sunday.

The Vikings entered the weekend series with a .212 team batting average, but hit .360 (41-for-114) with seven long balls and 27 runs in three contests against Dayton.

Sophomore Tom Carter went 7-for-15 over the weekend with two runs and two RBI. He now owns a team-best four-game hitting streak.

MILWAUKEE PANTHERS (3-8 overall, 0-0 HL)

Milwaukee has now faced ranked opponents in seven of its first 11 games in 2009.

Senior Andy Gerhartz is 7-for-7 in stolen-base attempts this season and has not been caught in his last nine SBA dating back to last season.

Andy Gerhartz and senior Shawn Wozniak both own current seven-game hitting streaks.

UIC FLAMES (1-9 overall, 0-0 HL)

Senior Jake Carr went 5-for-12 against Vanderbilt pitching over the weekend. Four of Carr's five hits went for extra bases, including two-run homers in back-to-back games Saturday and Sunday.

Sophomore Jason Ganek went 7-for-16 (.438) with a triple and three RBI against the Commodores.

Sophomore Andy Leonard continues to pace the Flames with a team-high .306 batting average (11-for-36).

UIC's 3-2 win over Vanderbilt on Thursday marked the fourth straight year that the Flames have defeated a Southeastern Conference school on its home field. The Flames beat Ole Miss in 2006, Tennessee twice in 2007 and Vanderbilt in 2008 and 2009.

The Flames concluded a 10-game season-opening road swing against three straight power conference foes.

UIC is scheduled to open its home slate on Thursday against Northwestern. This will be the Flames' 13th season of baseball at Les Miller Field.

VALPARAISO CRUSADERS (4-6 overall, 0-0 HL)

Senior Matt Lenski is riding a five-game hitting streak.

Junior Kyle Muhlsteff clobbered his first homer in a Valparaiso uniform last week.

Junior Josh Wallace has already recorded four multi-hit games this season.

WRIGHT STATE RAIDERS (3-9 overall, 0-0 HL)

Senior Jeff Mercer is riding an 11-game hitting streak (.375 BA). Mercer has 11 RBI and 12 hits - including six for extra bases - during the streak. He has reached base safely in 11 of 12 games this season.

Junior Travis LaMar picked up his first win at Wright State on Sunday, tossing 5+ innings for the second time this season. He is the first WSU starter to claim a victory in 2009, with the other two coming out of the bullpen.

YOUNGSTOWN STATE PENGUINS (2-8 overall, 0-0 HL)

Youngstown State dropped all three games at Towson by a combined four runs. YSU held the lead in the ninth in game two of Saturday's twinbill, but lost 8-7. The Penguins were up 5-4 in the eighth on Sunday, but lost 7-5.

The Penguins did not commit an error in the three-game series at Towson. In fact, YSU has committed four errors in the last seven games after having seven in its season opener.

The Penguins slugged six home runs in the series at Towson to go along with seven doubles. Junior Eric Marzec blasted two roundtrippers, while junior Jacke Healey, sophomore David Leon, junior Anthony Porter and junior Casey Holland smacked one apiece. Four of those homers came in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.
