HORIZON LEAGUE TEAM NOTES

BUTLER BULLDOGS (1-13 overall, 0-0 HL)

  • Throughout the spring, Butler will celebrate its 100th season of baseball. To date, the Bulldogs have tallied a 1,145-1,342-11 all-time record, eight conference championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances.

  • Butler has 11 seniors on its 2009 roster -- the most in the Horizon League this season.

CLEVELAND STATE VIKINGS (3-10 overall, 0-0 HL)

  • Senior Jon Foco went 3-for-4 with two RBI in Saturday's setback at Villanova.

  • Wednesday's game between Cleveland State and Bowling Green has been cancelled due to poor field conditions.

MILWAUKEE PANTHERS (4-11 overall, 0-0 HL)

  • Senior Josh Groves leads Milwaukee with a .356 batting average. He is currently riding a nine-game hitting streak (16-for-32) and hit a .500 over the weekend at Austin Peay.

  • Freshman Kyle Schmidt and senior Craig Meier combined to allow just three hits in Saturday's win at APSU. That marked the fewest base knocks for a UWM opponent since Centenary had three on March 9, 2008.

UIC FLAMES (3-11 overall, 0-0 HL)

  • With the Flames trailing Northwestern, 3-1, in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader, senior Brett Schaefer belted a three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to key UIC's 4-3 comeback victory.

  • Sophomore Andy Leonard leads UIC with a .320 batting average (16-for-50) after posting a 5-for-14 weekend against Northwestern.

  • UIC plays eight of its next 10 games at home, including four more this week. The Flames wrap up a two-game set with Purdue on Wednesday and open Horizon League action with a three-game series against Cleveland State this weekend.

VALPARAISO CRUSADERS (5-9 overall, 0-0 HL)

  • Junior Josh Wallace whacked two homers in Friday's win over Tennessee Tech and now leads the team with four roundtrippers on the season.

  • Junior Kyle Muhlsteff drove in five more runs over the weekend to take over the team lead with 12 RBI.

  • Senior Matt Lenski owns a 10-game hitting streak, dating back to last season. Valparaiso wraps up its 19-game road trip to start the year with four games this week -- one at Notre Dame and three at Butler.

WRIGHT STATE RAIDERS (7-11 overall, 0-0 HL)

  • For the second straight season, Wright State collected a pair of walk-off victories against Eastern Michigan at home. Junior Casey McGrew blasted a walk-off, two-run homer down the right-field line in game one before junior Aaron Fields launched a one-out, RBI double in the final inning of game two to give WSU the doubleheader sweep.

  • Wright State will play 11 of its next 14 games at Nischwitz Stadium. WSU is in the midst of hosting three in-state foes this week (Miami, Xavier and Youngstown State). The Raiders are 56-20 over the past three seasons at home.

  • Freshman Michael Schum had dropped four straight decisions to start his career before picking up a pair of wins in Saturday's doubleheader. Schum tossed 2.1 no-hit innings in the twinbill.

YOUNGSTOWN STATE PENGUINS (3-12 overall, 0-0 HL)

  • Sophomore Phil Klein has thrown two scoreless innings out of the bullpen in his last two outings. He started the seventh inning on Sunday at Marshall and held Youngstown State's 2-1 lead to earn his first collegiate save.

  • The Penguins will open Horizon League play on Friday at Wright State. YSU is 2-5 in its previous seven Horizon League openers, but the Penguins have won three of the last four opening series.

  • YSU has scored in its final at-bat of all three wins this season.
