BUTLER BULLDOGS (1-13 overall, 0-0 HL)
Throughout the spring, Butler will celebrate its 100th season of baseball. To date, the Bulldogs have tallied a 1,145-1,342-11 all-time record, eight conference championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances.Butler has 11 seniors on its 2009 roster -- the most in the Horizon League this season.
CLEVELAND STATE VIKINGS (3-10 overall, 0-0 HL)
Senior Jon Foco went 3-for-4 with two RBI in Saturday's setback at Villanova.Wednesday's game between Cleveland State and Bowling Green has been cancelled due to poor field conditions.
MILWAUKEE PANTHERS (4-11 overall, 0-0 HL)
Senior Josh Groves leads Milwaukee with a .356 batting average. He is currently riding a nine-game hitting streak (16-for-32) and hit a .500 over the weekend at Austin Peay.Freshman Kyle Schmidt and senior Craig Meier combined to allow just three hits in Saturday's win at APSU. That marked the fewest base knocks for a UWM opponent since Centenary had three on March 9, 2008.
UIC FLAMES (3-11 overall, 0-0 HL)
With the Flames trailing Northwestern, 3-1, in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader, senior Brett Schaefer belted a three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to key UIC's 4-3 comeback victory.Sophomore Andy Leonard leads UIC with a .320 batting average (16-for-50) after posting a 5-for-14 weekend against Northwestern.UIC plays eight of its next 10 games at home, including four more this week. The Flames wrap up a two-game set with Purdue on Wednesday and open Horizon League action with a three-game series against Cleveland State this weekend.
VALPARAISO CRUSADERS (5-9 overall, 0-0 HL)
Junior Josh Wallace whacked two homers in Friday's win over Tennessee Tech and now leads the team with four roundtrippers on the season.Junior Kyle Muhlsteff drove in five more runs over the weekend to take over the team lead with 12 RBI.Senior Matt Lenski owns a 10-game hitting streak, dating back to last season. Valparaiso wraps up its 19-game road trip to start the year with four games this week -- one at Notre Dame and three at Butler.
WRIGHT STATE RAIDERS (7-11 overall, 0-0 HL)
For the second straight season, Wright State collected a pair of walk-off victories against Eastern Michigan at home. Junior Casey McGrew blasted a walk-off, two-run homer down the right-field line in game one before junior Aaron Fields launched a one-out, RBI double in the final inning of game two to give WSU the doubleheader sweep.Wright State will play 11 of its next 14 games at Nischwitz Stadium. WSU is in the midst of hosting three in-state foes this week (Miami, Xavier and Youngstown State). The Raiders are 56-20 over the past three seasons at home.Freshman Michael Schum had dropped four straight decisions to start his career before picking up a pair of wins in Saturday's doubleheader. Schum tossed 2.1 no-hit innings in the twinbill.
YOUNGSTOWN STATE PENGUINS (3-12 overall, 0-0 HL)
Sophomore Phil Klein has thrown two scoreless innings out of the bullpen in his last two outings. He started the seventh inning on Sunday at Marshall and held Youngstown State's 2-1 lead to earn his first collegiate save.The Penguins will open Horizon League play on Friday at Wright State. YSU is 2-5 in its previous seven Horizon League openers, but the Penguins have won three of the last four opening series.YSU has scored in its final at-bat of all three wins this season.
