With the exception of a lead-off home run, the right-hander worked a perfect 2.2 innings, striking out one and walking none.Freshman Mike Hernandez boasts a team-high 40 strikeouts while allowing just eight walks in 42.1 innings. His 5-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio is tops on the team.
CLEVELAND STATE VIKINGS (12-20 overall, 5-7 HL)
Freshman Tyler Wynn smacked a one-out, walk-off double to give Cleveland State a 5-4 victory over Butler in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. MILWAUKEE PANTHERS (15-19 overall, 8-4 HL)
Milwaukee batted .369 in five games last week. The Panthers averaged over eight runs and 13 hits per contest during the stretch.Senior Andy Gerhartz set a school record with four stolen bases in Friday's series opener at Youngstown State. He scored twice in the 4-3 win, including a steal of home in the ninth with the winning run.Seniors Shawn Wozniak and Johann Andes enter the week with 10-game hitting streaks. Junior Shaun Wegner's 11-game hitting streak is UWM's best this season.Wednesday's game against St. Norbert will be televised on Time Warner Cable Sports 32 in Wisconsin.
UIC FLAMES (16-17 overall, 10-2 HL)
Senior Adam Worthington posted his seventh quality start (6.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO) -- in eight outings -- on Friday at Creighton. YOUNGSTOWN STATE PENGUINS (10-24 overall, 7-8 HL)
Youngstown State has recorded walk-off wins on back-to-back weekends against Cleveland State and Milwaukee. Junior Casey Holland was the hero against last weekend UWM with a two-run double in YSU's 8-7 win. Both of the game-winning hits came after infielders misplayed ground balls that should have ended the game with YSU losing.Eight of Youngstown State's 15 Horizon League games have been decided by one run, and the Penguins are 3-5 in those affairs. All five of YSU's one-run losses have come when its opponent scored in its last at-bat.Sophomore Phil Klein is 2-0 with a 3.44 ERA in seven Horizon League appearances this season.
