INDIANAPOLIS -- Cleveland State University junior Amy Benz has been named Horizon League Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the period of Sept. 7-13, while University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee junior Maddie Sueppel has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after her record-setting performance.
Benz, a middle hitter from Tiffin, Ohio, collected 31 kills (3.44 kps) and hit a League-best .560 for the Vikings last week. She also registered eight blocks and 35.5 points (3.94 pps) in nine sets.
Benz helped Cleveland State to three sweeps at the West Carolina Invitational in Cullowhee, N.C. The Vikings defeated Howard University and West Carolina on Friday before knocking off Gardner-Webb University on Saturday.
Sueppel, a middle blocker from Grafton, Wis., recorded a League-best 30 blocks (2.14 bps) for the Panthers last week. She also collected 38 kills (2.71 kps), 54.5 points (3.89 pps) and hit .364 in 14 sets.
Sueppel set Milwaukee and Horizon League single-match records for block assists (17) and total blocks (19) on Saturday against Marquette University. She also hammered 19 kills while hitting .500 vs. the Golden Eagles.
Cleveland State (9-2) returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Wright State University at 7 p.m. ET. Milwaukee (2-8) is back on the court Tuesday when it heads to Northern Illinois University at 8 p.m.
