INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Milwaukee senior Jena Berg has been named Horizon League Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, while Butler junior Maureen Bamiro has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for the period of Sept. 20-26.
Berg, a setter from Bristol, Wis., collected 76 assists (9.5 assists per set) and 12 kills helping the Panthers pick up a pair of conference road wins last week. She registered 51 assists, six kills, seven digs and four block-assists to help Milwaukee beat undefeated Cleveland State on Friday. Berg then led UWM to a season-best .329 hitting percentage on Saturday defeating Youngstown State.
Bamiro, a middle blocker from Kalamazoo, Mich., recorded 14 blocks, averaging 2.00 blocks per set, helping the Bulldogs go 2-0 last week. She tallied one solo block and six block-assists in a sweep of IUPUI on Friday, and seven block-assists against Wright State on Saturday. Bamiro also registered 29 kills, hitting .447, and averaged 5.21 points per set on the weekend.
Milwaukee resumes league action on Friday when it hosts Valparaiso for an 8 p.m. ET match. Butler continues conference play hosting UIC on Saturday with a 5 p.m. ET start.
