MILWAUKEE (October 19, 2015) – Milwaukee Director of Athletics Amanda Braun has been appointed a member of the NCAA’s Division I Competition Oversight Committee by the NCAA Division I Council. The committee is chaired by University of Kentucky Director of Athletics Mitch Barnhart.

In her third full year as the athletics director at Milwaukee, Braun is the first female to hold the position in school history. During her brief but successful tenure on campus, she has helped Panther Athletics to new heights and played the lead role in bringing Milwaukee men’s basketball contests back downtown to UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

Donations to the program have skyrocketed under her watch and last season, 10 teams finished first or second in either the Horizon League regular season or league tournament races. In the classroom, the Panthers posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 for a remarkable 29th consecutive semester in Spring 2015 and for the second straight year boasted an Academic All-American.

“I am honored and humbled to be selected to serve on the NCAA Division I Competition Oversight Committee with some of the brightest minds in the business,” Braun said. “I look forwarding to sharing ideas with my colleagues as we work to improve the overall student-athlete experience. “

Braun is one of 11 directors of athletics from across the country serving on the 19-member Division I Competition Oversight Committee. The committee has oversight of competitive matters for sports other than football and men’s and women’s basketball and oversees the NCAA Olympic Sports Liaison Committee. Along with supervision of the qualification and/or selection procedures for Division I and National Collegiate Championships, the committee will review recommendations from sports committees and process other issues related to the administration of championships.

The committee prioritizes enhancement of the student-athlete educational experience and, in doing so, promotes student-athletes’ personal growth and leadership development.
