BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Former Green Bay standout Alec Brown (Winona, Minn./Winona) became the fifth Phoenix player taken in program history, chosen 50th overall by the Phoenix Suns in the 2014 NBA Draft.

Brown is the fifth player from the Horizon League to be selected in the NBA Draft since 2010, joining Gordon Hayward (Utah, No. 9 overall, 2010), Norris Cole (Miami via Chicago, No. 28 overall, 2011) Shelvin Mack (Washington, No. 34 overall, 2011), and Ray McCallum (Sacramento, No. 36 overall, 2013).

Brown is the fifth Green Bay player drafted in program history, following Tony Bennett (Charlotte, No. 35 overall, 1992) and Jeff Nordgaard (Milwaukee, No. 53, 1996) in the present era of the draft.

The 7-foot-1 center was tabbed the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year in his senior season after recording a school-record 94 blocks. The senior's 309 career blocks matched the conference career mark.

The Minnesotan averaged 15.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game. In addition to points and blocks, Brown posted career-best numbers in 3-point field goal percentage (.420).

In his career, Brown accumulated 1,678 points, 800 rebounds and 309 blocked shots.
