INDIANAPOLIS -- Valparaiso University junior Kim Bukowski and senior Brittany Malicoat have been named Horizon League Volleyball Players of the Week for the period of Sept. 29-Oct. 5.
A native of Waukesha, Wis., Bukowski earns Offensive Player of the Week accolades after handing out a Horizon League-best 156 assists during three matches last week. She established a new career high on Friday with 66 helpers in a five-set win over Cleveland State (25-27, 25-22, 27-25, 24-26, 15-11).
Bukowski also helped the Crusaders to victories over Bradley (29-27, 25-18, 25-18) on Tuesday and Youngstown State (25-23, 25-21, 25-20) on Saturday. The setter has guided Valparaiso to a Top 10 national ranking in both kills per set (14.98) and assists per set (13.85) this season.
A native of Elkhart, Ind., Malicoat picks up Defensive Player of the Week honors after posting a Horizon League-high 71 digs during three matches last week. She continues to lead all Division I players with 66 straight matches of 10+ digs.
Malicoat collected a season-best 27 digs in just three sets at Bradley and another 27 digs vs. Cleveland State. The libero, already Valparaiso's all-time digs leader, is just 12 digs shy of 2,000 for her career.
Valparaiso travels to Wright State on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET) before returning home for a Friday match against UIC (8 p.m.) and Saturday affair vs. Loyola (3 p.m.). The Crusaders are 10-5 overall and 2-3 in league play.
