Women's Final Results

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. --

Butler claimed its first Horizon League Women's Golf Championship since 2008 at at Mission Inn Resort in Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla.  The team shot 975 (+99) while last year's champion Detroit posted a 983 (+107) for runner-up honors.  Third-place Loyola trailed the Titans by 17 strokes, recording 1000 swings.  The Bulldogs will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament with the win.

Top individual honors went to Butler junior Michele Nash as she shot a 54-hole score of 233 (+14).   The 2009 individual medalist Samantha Formeck finished runner-up, shooting 235, while Cleveland State sophomore Ariel Sparrow finished third with a 237.

Immediately following the championship the award winners were announced as Nash, Formeck and Sparrow were joined on the All-Tournament Team by Detroit’s Alainna Stefan, Valparaiso’s Erika Pfaender, Loyola’s April Ohlendorf, Youngstown State’s Sarah Heimlich and Butler’s Molly Fields.

Also announced at the banquet were the 2011 All-League members, which were based on their performance during the entire season.  The honors went Butler's Nash and Molly Field, Cleveland State's Sparrow and Lisa Barber, Loyola’s Nikki Miller and Ohlendorf and Youngstown State’s Formeck and Rogner.

Player of the Year laurels were given to Butler’s Nash while Newcomer of the Year was presented to Loyola’s Ohlendorf.  Butler’s Bill Mattingly took home the Coach of the Year award.
