GREEN BAY, Wis. - Butler University and Loyola University Chicago won the 2008 Horizon League Cross Country Championships Saturday afternoon at the Cofrin Memorial Arboretum Trails on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Butler won the men's race for the 11th straight year, while Loyola claimed the women's event for the fifth time in school history and the first time since 2001.

The Bulldogs took the top five spots, tallying 15 points. Butler junior Andy Baker won the men's 8K race with a time of 24:54.41. Baker was followed by Rob Mullett (25:12.71), Tom Boardman (25:18.17), Kris Gausen (25:20.27) and Justin Roeder (25:27.44).

Loyola senior Ryan Kuphall was the first finisher that didn't run for Butler, placing sixth with a time of 25:32.61. LU finished second with 77 points, followed by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (105), the University of Illinois at Chicago (113) and the University of Detroit Mercy (127).

The Loyola women ended Butler's six-year reign as champions, totaling 35 points. Junior Colleen Donovan (18:03) and senior Genevieve Binnie (18:10) placed second and third in the 5K race, respectively. Laura Rolf of Valparaiso University won the event with a mark of 17:34.

Milwaukee placed second in the women's race with 43 points, followed by Butler (107), UIC (132) and Valparaiso (132).
