Race Results

Butler University swept the Horizon League Cross Country Championships for the fifth consecutive year.  The Championships were held October 28, 2006 on the Butler campus.

 

The Bulldogs claimed their ninth consecutive Horizon League Men's Cross Country Championship after having seven runners finish in the top eleven spots.  Butler ended up with 18 points, topping runner-up the University of Illinois at Chicago who finished with 69 points.

 

Loyola posted 69 points to finish third, followed by UW-Milwaukee (108), Youngstown State (137), Detroit (148), UW-Green Bay (166), and Wright State (242).

 

The men's individual League title was captured by Butler senior Scott Overall in a time of 24:53.70 for the 8K course, edging out teammate Alex Hains who finished at 24:58.  Loyola senior Sam Romanoski grabbed third-place with a time of 25:07, followed by three Butler runners, junior Darren Gauson (25:36), junior Richard Kay (25:38) and senior Vinny Ambrico (25:55).  University of Illinois at Chicago junior Joseph Mbari rounded out the top seven finishers, crossing the line at 26:01.

 

The Butler women took their fifth consecutive Horizon League Women's Cross Country Championship, finishing with 19 points.  Loyola claimed their fifth consecutive runner-up finish, ending up with 55 points on the day.

 

UW-Milwaukee came away with a third-place finish of 69 points, chased by the University of Illinois at Chicago (96), UW-Green Bay (174), Youngstown State (185), Wright State (201), Cleveland State (223) and Detroit (228).

 

Junior Ava Hutchinson claimed the individual League title with a time of 17:49 for the 5K course.  Hutchinson was followed across the line by several teammates, senior Jenni Pereira (18:04), junior Genni Gardner (18:18) and junior Claire Holme (18:20).  Loyola sophomore Ashley Raymond led the Ramblers with a fifth-place time of 18:22, while University of Illinois at Chicago senior Laura Macias took sixth-place in 18:29.35, barely edging out UW-Milwaukee junior Holly Nearman at 18:29.50.

 

University of Illinois at Chicago freshman Nic Aubert was named the Horizon League Men's Newcomer of the Year after finishing in 20th-place with a time of 27:10.  Butler freshman Marbeth Shiell was honored as the Horizon League Women's Newcomer of the Year, taking a tenth-place finish in 18:46.  Butler head coach Joe Franklin claimed the Coach of the Year honors for both men and women.
