Butler junior Andy Baker closed out the Bulldogs' outdoor track and field season and the 2007-08 sports year with an appearance in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Des Moines, Iowa, on Wednesday (June 11). The Butler distance ace placed 13th in the second heat of the men's 5,000 meter preliminaries in the national meet hosted by Drake University.

Baker, who was Butler's lone national meet qualifier, posted a time of 15:05.76 in his heat of the race and missed advancing to the finals. Earlier this season, he posted a career-best time of 13:49.87 in the 5,000 at the Oregon Relays, and he ran a 14:45.08 at the Horizon League Championship.

The top 10 qualifiers for the finals of the 5,000 meter race at the national meet came from Baker's heat. Robert Curtis of Villanova had the top finish in the two heats with a time of 14:10.24.
