Butler's Farley Receives ABCA Ethics In Coaching Award

INDIANAPOLIS - Butler baseball coach Steve Farley has been honored by his profession with the ABCA Ethics In Coaching Award. Farley will be honored at the coaching convention in Nashville in January.

"I’d like to thank committee chairman Tom O’Connell and the ABCA for this great honor. I’m very humbled to be chosen, as there are so many outstanding baseball coaches out there," Farley said.

Farley, who will begin his 20th season at Butler in February, is a four-time conference coach of the year and has led the BU program to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.

The ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association) honors coaches annually who display traits of honesty, integrity, respect and personal responsibility. He shares the award with Sam Riggleman of Spring Arbor University. It is the third year the ABCA has given the award. Farley and Riggleman will be honored in Nashville with more than 4,000 baseball coaches in attendance.

Farley added: "I’ve had some great coaching role models in my life, most notably my dad, Mike Farley, who was the long-time football coach at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. I’ll always be indebted to Jerry Kindall, Hall of Fame coach from the University of Arizona, who gave me the opportunity to learn from him when I was a graduate assistant. My assistant coach here at Butler, Matt Tyner, has always been a great friend and confidant. I’d especially like to thank my wife, Lisa, and my daughters Hannah and Sarah for all the support and encouragement they have given me."
