INDIANAPOLIS -- Butler’s Brandon Fricke, who completed his first season as a starting defender for the Bulldogs, has been named to the 11-player Capital One Academic All-District V University Division Men’s Soccer Team, chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). With his selection, he is now eligible for the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America Team.
Fricke, a second-year player majoring in Mechanical Engineering/Economics, has been a starter in 15 of 16 games for the Bulldogs this fall. He finished sixth on the team in scoring, and he tied for fifth on the squad in games started. He scored his first collegiate goal in Butler’s victory over Western Illinois at the Dayton Marriott Classic, and he recorded an assist on the Bulldogs’ first goal in a 3-1 victory over IPFW.
The Grimes, Iowa, player helped lead a Butler defense that recorded two shutouts and allowed just five goals over the final six matches. Butler finished the 2011 season with a 7-8-3 record.
The 11 honored athletes from District V, which represents Division I schools from Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ontario and Manitoba, will be considered with All-Academic picks from seven other districts for Academic All-America selection, which will be released later in November.
