Men's Soccer Player of the Week Release in PDF Format
INDIANAPOLIS - Butler University senior forward Eduardo Garcia has been named Horizon League Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the period of Oct. 13-19. It marks the first time in his career Garcia has captured the award.
Garcia, a native of Lima, Peru, scored three times in a pair of Butler victories last week. He scored in the 31st minute of BU's 4-0 win over IUPUI on Tuesday and then added a pair of goals in a 3-1 win at Wright State University on Saturday. The win against WSU kept the Bulldogs undefeated in Horizon League play.
Garcia gave Butler a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute against the Raiders, and he added another tally in the 58th minute to put the match away. It was his first career multi-goal performance.
For the week, Garcia totaled six points on three goals. He also had eight shots, including five tries on goal. He now has three goals on the season in addition to his Horizon League-leading seven assists. In conference play, the Bulldog forward is tied with teammate Kyle Pateros and Loyola's Eric Gehrig for the League lead with nine points (2g, 5a).
Garcia and Butler (10-2-2, 4-0-1 HL) will play two home matches this week, hosting Eastern Illinois Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET and Loyola University Chicago Friday at 1:30 p.m.
