Youngstown, Ohio
INDIANAPOLIS – Butler University sophomore forward Katie Griswold (Youngstown, Ohio) has been named Horizon League Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, for the week beginning Oct. 11.
Griswold helped Butler go 1-1 on the week, recording two goals and an assist as the Bulldogs clinched a place in the Horizon League Women’s Soccer Tournament.
In a 2-1 loss to Loyola on Friday, Griswold tallied Butler’s lone goal, lofting a shot over the Ramblers’ goalkeeper, putting the Bulldogs ahead early.
Needing a split of the weekend, Griswold led Butler to a 3-0 victory at Detroit, tallying the eventual game-winning goal with a strike from the right side in the 10th minute of play. The sophomore added her first assist of the season in the 88th minute, helping the Bulldogs clinch the result.
The two goals helped Griswold move to second in the Horizon League in goals (9); her 19 points are third in the conference.
The player of the week honor was the second of the year for Griswold, who received the award for her play during the week of Aug. 30.
With a 4-2-0 Horizon League mark, Butler is tied for third in the conference with 12 points, wrapping up a conference tournament bid.
The Bulldogs wrap up their regular season with two home conference matches, beginning with a clash versus Youngstown State at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22. Butler concludes the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 24, when they host Cleveland State at 12 p.m. ET.
