INDIANAPOLIS - Butler sophomore guard/forward Gordon Hayward has been named the Horizon League Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 13.

A native of Brownsburg, Ind., Hayward averaged 24 points and eight rebounds per game as the #22/20 Bulldogs went 1-1 last week against a pair of nationally ranked opponents.

Hayward had 24 points and eight rebounds in Butler's 72-65 loss to #15/13 Georgetown Tuesday in the Jimmy V Classic and posted identical numbers in the Bulldogs' 74-66 victory over #13/15 Ohio State Saturday at Hinkle Fieldhouse. For the week, he was 16-for-35 (.457) from the field -- including 7-of-17 (.412) from three-point range -- and also made all nine of his free-throw attempts to extend his streak to 22 in a row.

Hayward ranks third in the Horizon League in scoring with 16.9 points per game and second with 8.2 rebounds per contest. He is the only player to rank among the top three in both categories.

Butler (7-3, 2-0 Horizon League) will take the week off for final exams before returning to action Saturday when the Bulldogs play host to Xavier (6-3) on ESPN2 at 2 p.m. ET. Like Butler, the Musketeers are coming off a victory over a top-25 opponent after upsetting #19/19 Cincinnati 83-79 in double overtime Sunday.
