INDIANAPOLIS -- Butler University men's soccer player Nick Hegeman and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee volleyball player Becky Peters have been named U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sept. 21, League commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced Tuesday (Sept. 23).

Hegeman (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville), a junior, was the winning goalkeeper in both Butler victories at the Dayton Flyer Courtyard by Marriott Tournament and was named to the all-tournament team. He recorded his third shutout in four starts this season in the Bulldogs' 3-0 victory over Robert Morris University Sept. 19, finishing with a season-high four saves. Hegeman then made one save in a 3-2 win over Marshall University Sept. 21.

As an economics major, Hegeman carries a 3.376 grade-point average at Butler. He has been named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll and the Butler Athletic Director's Honor Roll during his career.

Peters (Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran), a senior outside hitter, averaged 5.25 kills and 3.42 digs per set as Milwaukee went 2-1 during the week. She totalled 24 kills against Oregon State University Sept. 21 after posting 20 in League victory over Wright State University Sept. 19. In UWM's victory over Northern Illinois University Sept. 16, Peters had 19 kills and 11 digs to break the Panthers' record for career digs. She has reached double figures in kills in every match this season and has 10 double-doubles.

In the classroom, Peters maintains a 3.435 grade-point average as a nursing major. She has been been selected to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll and the UWM Dean's List.

The Horizon League instituted the U.S. Army Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes.
