INDIANAPOLIS -- Butler University junior Nina Inic (women's volleyball) has been named the U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week, League commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced Tuesday (August 28).

Inic led the Bulldog volleyball squad in digs in all three weekend matches at the Orange and Green Challenge in Coral Gables, Fla. She boasted a match-high 30 digs in Butler's season-opening victory over Jacksonville University, and made 19 kills against Hofstra University.

In the classroom, Inic carries a team-high 3.876 grade-point average as an economics major. In 2006, she earned Academic All-League honors, and was a member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll. In addition, Inic was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Second Team.

The Horizon League instituted the Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution and passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours, and perform well during the week's competition. Winners are selected by a group of League faculty athletic representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
