INDIANAPOLIS -- Butler’s indoor track and field campaign got off to a strong start, with junior Kirsty Legg (Middlesborough, England) and freshman Nicole Hudec (North Royalton, Ohio) bringing home three new school records from the Notre Dame Blue and Gold Meet.

In the 3000m run, mid-distance runner Legg broke her own school record she set last year by almost 11 seconds with a time of 9:19:60. She won first place in the competition out of 14 runners, including teammate Katie Clark, who took second place for the Bulldogs.

In her first collegiate appearance, Hudec broke Butler records in both the long jump and the triple jump. In the long jump, she sailed 17-5 to take fourth place. The new record beats the previous record of 16-10.75, shared by Lauren Karch (2000) and Kirsti Hertzler (2006). Hudec also shattered a 13-year old record for triple jump, leaping 36-1 to take second out of nine competitors. The record was previously held by Jen Conner (1998) with a 34-05.5 leap.

Butler will be back in action next weekend at the EIU Early Bird Meet in Charleston, Ill.
